2285B recap & binder post conversion

Help! I've started my recap on my 2285B and things are going OK.

I just ran into what may become a problem as I try to get advice later, my P200 tuner board does not match the schematic that I have printed out.

My serial number is U140158. If anyone has the one that matches this I'd really appreciate a copy. Here's some pics. Not being a tech I'm keeping track of board location for each component that I remove. I use double sided tape stuck to a heavy paper and then stick the component to the tape and mark the paper

I did find one resistor on the P800 power supply board that has a corroded lead, it tests OK but I'll replace it.

one more thing:

In the pic of the unit, there is an ink stamp on the front frame plate. Is this the date of manufacture? Jerry
 
Hi. You are aware that the big power filter caps on the 2285B are dual caps. Meaning you can't buy them you have to figure out how to mount and wire four caps or hollow out the old caps and put two caps in each can.There are a few posts on how to do it.
Also be prepared to remove old glue from the circuit boards that may make contact with leads.Again there are posts on the different techniques people use.Looks like you are methodical and taking pictures . A good thing. Hope you have a dim bulb tester.
 
Yes, I've done a lot of research on the main caps and I'm going to use catrafter's approach, I already cut my bushings. As far as the schematic, Tom, I'll take a look at it, thanks. I was pondering whether to look at a 2285, but I'll definitely check out the other. What's your take on the ink stamped mark on the front frame? Is that the manufacture date? Jerry
 
Tom, you are spot on!!! What the heck am I doing with a 2330B tuner board? Did Marantz use boards from model to model or is this an anomaly? Jerry
 
Ya know, Fhamre, I just about blew off your comment about the dim bulb tester and then a description and link showed up in another thread. I can throw a simple one together real quick before I plug this unit into full voltage. Thanks for making me think. That's what I like about AKer's!!:yes:

I've seen the 2330B tuner board in most of the 2285B's I've restored. I didn't track them by date code, so I don't know if it was a production change or what.

Have a similar problem with the P800 board on a 2285 the one in the receiver doesn´t correspond to that in the schematic. The actual part in the receiver is part no. YO2916002-0 not not the YKxxx3054-0 (x´s are non visible numbers in the schematic) that appears in the schematic I downloaded. Any help is appreciated on finding the correct one. Have a burnt resistor that needs fixing plus checking for the cause.

Rodolfo, can you take a picture of it? That may help the techs with a possible ID if they haven't run into this.

I assume you know how all those go back in with regards to polarity. :D I usually go one cap at a time, I'll forget how one cap was oriented.

I see Panasonic FC and Silmic II, nice. You're gonna love that Marantz when it's all done.
 
You've got a sharp eye there Jailtime! Yes, I am going to be very particular about polarity. Thanks to support from some great people like yourself and Catrafter and EchoWars I feel comfortable that I'm on the right path.:thmbsp:
 
Hope the pictures help identify the rouge board in the 2285 the PN of the P800 board is YO2916002-0. It is the original one that came in the receiver. Any suggestion as to where to get the corresponding schematic will be appreciated. The toasted resistor is R801.

Thank you much Tom. That is the correct one. Had the wrong schematics guess they were the B version. No rouge board just the wrong choice of schematic. Any suggestions as to what to look for as the cause of the toasted resistor?

I've learned to make my parts lists by looking at the boards themselves. It's not uncommon for electronic gear to have component value changes that aren't updated on the scematic or parts list. I also replace part for part one at a time. Easier for me not to make a mistake:D
 
That's my approach also, I'm even going one more step. Take a look at my starting photos. As I pulled the caps out I stuck them to a card with double faced tape and wrote down their locations on the boards and what board they came from. As I'm replacing them I double check the values that existed.
 
Help, wrong count

OK, I wasn't careful enough on the count of film substitutions that I needed. I was one short on the Panasonic ECG 1uF 50V film capacitor. It looks like Digi-Key has about a $9.00 minimum shipping fee. Is there an alternative option? Thanks, Jerry
