Pinch me, I'm dreaming!

Ow! Okay, maybe I'm not dreaming. :D But I feel like it.

I just got an SX-1250 that's in beautiful condition and has a few problems. The good is that it's very clean, almost perfect cosmetically and was well taken care of by a audio enthusiast and works perfectly, but only through the power in, the bad is that the preamp, or more specifically the tone amp is shot, you flip the tone switch and it goes into protection and also the indicator lamps do not work. But, I know exactly what the problem is, it has bad caps on the tone amp and the power supply has some bad transistors, and this is fixable!

Oh yeah, I paid $75 for it.:banana::banana: That's what he was asking for it, and he knew what they were worth too. He just wanted to pass it on as he didn't want to mess with repairing it, he even gave me a free SG-9500 for meeting him more then halfway. He said he gets on here so if you read this Mark, thank you very much, you have made a fellow audiophile very happy!

Heck yes I have it apart, I could not believe my eyes when I saw that transformer and the caps. They're HUGE! Here are the pics! Warning, you may have to wipe drool off the keyboard when you are done looking. :D

Never seen one of these in person, but to me, my SX-980 is huge so I'm sure that the SX-1250 is a true "monster". Looks very nice. Good luck with the repair.

You DOG! You lucky dog!

Do me a favor and call back to see if the seller has any more "junkers" like this lying around, will ya?

EDIT: Oh, wait... Is that a smudge I see on the bezel near the tuner? You'd better get rid of it. Need my address?

BTW - "Beautiful condition" is almost an understatement.

I'm glad that I could make another AK'er happy. It was meant for you to have it. You deserve it. I wish everyone here could meet you.

For being a "Junior Audio Repairman" this young man knows his stuff. I'd trust him with with any piece I had. It was a pleasure meeting you, Matt. Good luck with all of your future endeavors.

...R1 (Mark)

Thank you Mark, it was a pleasure meeting you too! I had always wondered who roadie1 was, since Chillicothe is fairly close to me and there aren't many AK'ers in my area of the woods. Now I know, it's you!

:lmao:

Thanks for all the kind comments guys, I plan on giving it a drool worth restoration, both cosmetically and electrically. I'll be starting a thread in the Pioneer forum to detail the progress, with lots of pics.

You can't blame a guy for trying.

Rodie - Nice job advancing the cause. Hopefully karma will revisit you in kind.

Win-Win for both of you.

Matt, obviously you have a winner there, and also a nicely organized work area to perform your repairs. Can you expand a bit on your work bench too?

I'll get a photo of my bench, too dark right now (lighting sucks after dark) but you'll see one tomorrow!
