Just got in this unit. Going to recap the Power Supply and looking over
I do not see any other caps that are leaking or look out of place.

Big Cans: (2) 12,000uf 80V
Small Cans: (2)2200uf 80V...going with Nichicon KG 2200uf 100v
Other Caps:
(3) 2200 25v...going with Nichicon FG
(2) 100uf 50v...going with Nichicon FG

I am not finding much for 12,000uf 80v...:scratch2:

Mouser has Panasonic ECE-T2AP123FA 12000UF 100V

A quick check-up(does sound clean and strong)...The Motor Volume control is not working. Not a show stopper, but I am going to look for this part.

Anyone have the Service Manual?? If not I will need to pick one up.

12,000uF is an odd value, use 15,000uF if it will fit.
What kind of terminals do the caps have? They look big enough to have solder lugs, if they do, you can probably use KG there as well.

They are solder lugs...Checking KG 15,000 80v(50x100)

No Good on the size...Max is 41mm x 104mm

You can see from the picture..top is bulging up. These will need to be replaced.

Those are probably fine, usually the plastic is the only thing that is bulging. If it is solid under there, then the aluminum can has bulged, which is a problem, but usually is just the plastic.

Normally I just replace them anyways because they are ugly.

I bet that the spacing underneath is such that you could use snap in caps with 10mm spacing.

I agree...I did press on the plastic and do feel a bulged. These will be replaced. Underneath the board a snap will work..Lots of room.

I have checked and the only cap that I see is:

Panasonic ECE-T2AP123FA 12000UF 100V from mouser

I am going to bump up the Volts..80v to 100v, 25v to 35v and 50v to 63v
So the list:
(2) Panasonic ECE-T2AP123FA 12000UF 100V
(2) Nichicon KG 2200uf 100v
(3) Nichicon FG 2200 35v
(2) Nichicon FG 100uf 63v

Are the big caps nichcion negative black? In my N80 one nichicon negative started bulging, and I've seen at others too(the same nichicon).
Do these caps have a problem?
Oh,I already changed them in my first N80(Nichcion KG 4700uf 80V)

Negative black is just jargon for denoting which side of the capacitor has the negative terminal, it is not a type of capacitor other than the fact that all of the capacitors with this marking are polarized...

I think you might reap more benefits by increasing the capacitance rather than the voltage. Take a look at what mouser has for snap-in KGs.

Mouser has Non-stocked in that range of up...Partsconnexion has them.

These would work... though a small step down in capacity

LS is the small version of the KG, if I recall correctly.
The problem with the Panasonic caps is that you might not be able to use multi-pin caps (extra pins are for support, and can be cut off) since the lead spacing is usually around 22mm, where the standard pin spacing for snap in caps is 10mm.
Since you are not dealing with capacitor clamps, you have more flexibility for the sizes.

I see...The Orignal Sony cap is 12,000uf/80v...I can use 10,000uf ?

It would be helpful to see the bottom of the circuit board. The problem with 12,000uF is that it is not a common value, and since the receiver isn't THAT old, all capacitors of the next standard step (15,000uF) are too large, so you are forced to use 10,000uF, basically.

Did you check to see if the motor is getting voltage? It could just be a bad connection somewhere.

You are correct...The space on the lugs are 10mm.

I need to switch to 2Pin....So the replacement is:

(2) Nichicon LS 10,000uf 80v 35x50- LLS1K103MELC
(2) Nichicon KG 2200uf 100v
(3) Nichicon FG 2200 35v
(2) Nichicon FG 100uf 63v

I soon as I get in the Service Manual..I will get a cap list for Tone Board, Control Board and Main Board. I am at this time not touching the Tuner Board.

Was checking FleeBay(Item number:270904416179) and I can get:

ELNA Audio Electrolytic Capacitor 10000uF 80V

Now...Are they fake? I will contact ELNA to see.

Too bad that the KG series will not fit, because those are solder lug terminals, and they would be a drop in replacement.
But it's good that the new capacitors are 35mm because... well you'll just have to see how they fit in, but it is usually a surprise.

I should be getting these in 2weeks...They have checked out with ELNA so this is good.

Main Caps are in....Power board is done...

WOW...Big Big and Big Sound...:music: Night and Day what was in there...

Deep Lows and Smooth Mids and Highs...I need to compare this to Luxman R-117 and what I am hearing right now...Sony

I will post another thread on this match.

OK...I am going to recap the Main Board and Tone Board. Going to leave the Micro and Tuner board alone.

I still need to troubleshoot the Volume control..motor in not working and I know the remote is good as no issue with TA-E9000ES:scratch2:

Did you bypass the filter caps?
Try a 1uF or higher 100V+ quality film cap in parallel with each cap, soldered directly across the terminals.
