Thanks to fellow AR'er vtomike, I was able to complete my Nakamichi 4xx series. 430 tuner, 410 pre, and 420 amplifier. These are sweet little units and built quite well! Would not want to drop one on your toe as they are heavy for their size!

Mike had a wood case for one. Wish I could find a couple more? The 420 amplifer also makes a good buddy for a 630 tuner pre.

The 630 basically has a 410 and 430 built in but the 410 appears to have a better alps volume control?

I will be doing a complete recap of these soon. I did a recap to my system 1 600 series rack a couple of years ago with good results.

Listening to this now through a couple ADS L420 speakers. Great combination!

:tresbon: Beautiful audio equipment, but that 630 take's the cake! :D

Wish I had a Nakamichi 630 Tuner! :sigh:

WOW! That is audio porn! I have a nakamichi sr3a and it sounds great, I can only imagine what that sounds like :music:

Hi Stoutblock,
I imagine your 420 serial number is less than 4504581, since I can't see the additional protector circuit added by Nakamichi later on to protect speakers in case of transistors failure. Might be safer to add it.

I did install the DC protection circuit when I rebuilt this amp a while back. It uses the same PCB kit as the 620 amps.

So the picture is before you added the protection? Usually it is located on top of the output PCB.

Yes, it is a separate PCB daughter board. The SM has an update that shows how to install it. I bought some more modern DC protection boards for my 620 amps and used one of the original ones in the 420. I replaced all the caps, and installed the board but I don't think I took a picture of it.
