Difference Between KEF 103.2 and 103.3 anyone know pls ?

I've done a little looking around on the KEF 103.2 and 103.3 models. Not much to find on the 103.3. Mostly what I see is 103.3 came with a Black box called the Kube which was a adjustable Bass and Treble EQ.

Was that the only diffrence? So would they sound the same if both were played without the EQ ?

Seems the 103.3 would have been more desireable because of the adjustable EQ but seems mostly the 103.2 is sort after and metion most.

Can someone give me some info and specs please. Thanks

Completely different speakers.

103.2 is a 2 way from the late 70's.

103.3 is a 3 way from the mid 80's with active EQ designed as part of the system, will play but will not work properly without it.

No parts in common. Both great speakers. The 103.3 were a few years newer and a lot more money but seem to sell for less these days. The downside of the .3 is the fact they eventually need a refoam on the woofer and it is no walk in the park (google for info, lots here on AK). Ferrofluid in tweeters also prone to drying out and killing output.

I used to sell Kef in 103.3 days, found a pair, fixed them and passed them on to a friend. Kept the beat up 103.2 I already had. Oh, also bought and kept the 107 but that's quite another story (and another nightmare refoam waiting to happen!)

So at this time could those Ferrofluid Tweeter be dryed/drying out already ?

You have heard both,what which would you say is better, with a 85 wpc amp that would most likely only see 15- 25 watts listening per day ?
 
I about to pull the trigger and buy a set of 103.3 with cubes in top condition.

Are they as nice sounding as the 103.2. And it has the EQ, are they ok in the bass department ? Please help. I cannot listen to them. Anybody had/heard them ?
 
I'm late to this party but I have a pair of 103|3's that I'm quite fond of. Can't compare them to the 103|2 as I've not heard them. The 103|3 can be a little thin on the bass simply due to the size of the low driver. Obviously, a 15" woofer is going to reach down further than a 8" woofer, no matter how the cab and EQ are doctored!

That being said, the bass still performs more effectively than the vast majority of the consumer-grade stuff on the shelves. It's not going to deliver a chest-crushing dubstep bass drop. But organ pedal tones, upright bass, and bass guitar all come through very nicely.
 
I own a pair of the 103.2's and they are an awesome "Near Field" monitor. They can sound a bit boxy and need to be on stands, but man do they deliver clarity in the mid-range on up.

I believe they are rated down to 48Hz +/-3db, but I'm not sure they go quite that low. I have never heard the 103.3, but it was the replacement for the 103.2 and it utilized some of the Technology from the "Coupled-Cavity Bass" design of the 104.2 and the 107. As Raynald pointed out, they are a 3-way as opposed to the 2-way 103.2.

I would say that if you compared them side by side, the 103.3 would probably have a little better bass detail than the 103.2

I'd say go for it, you won't be disappointed either way. :thmbsp:
