Need help with operating instructions for this unit , picked it and 60 metal 10.5 inch reels of prerecorded music at a garage sale thia AM , any help would be great , will try to attach a picture , Thanks , Gary . Also is it a keeper of any value or use ?

And 60 10.5 metal reels w/tape??? What kind? Maxells would be obscene.

GX-400 D is worth much more if the deck is working. They usually sell for $ 700-1000.00 here in US.
They also made 400 D. SS Quad that is a real keeper if you find one.

I don't have a owners manual for this deck, sorry.
Do you have problems to operate it or ?
 
The deck works fine but there are 2 controls that I do not know thier function , Tape Selector switch that says S.R.T or Normal . And another switch marked A.P.F and an on or off selector ? Any help would be great , Thanks , Gary .
 
The APF stands for Automatic program finder, as reverse playback.
Tape-selector is for high bias and normal tape. :)
 
If I remember right, first you need sensing foil attached on the tape at the end, and engage the APF button.
When the sensing foil pass over the sensing-post it will start playing in reverse play-direction.
But the APF must be engaged.

If you have a AKAI GX-400D PRO it has no AUTOREVERSE !
My "normal" GX-400D has that, the same as the GX-400D-SS. They bouth are 4 Track-Decks. The GX-400D-PRO is a 2 Track-Version - Play and Record in just one direction.
The GX-400D-Pro had the possibility to playback 4-Track tapes, too, I think .

GX-400D are very searched and the price in Europa goes from $800 to §2000 :eek:

Thanks siamac , I appreciate your input , the deck plays very well and came with 60 + professionaly pre-recorded tapes so I have only listened to a few so far , really enjoying it , I am amazed at the prices they fetch , almost tempted to sell !! Thanks , Gary .
 
Yery nice looking machine. Now that you have the reversing foil, you can listen for hours without turning over the tape.

Man, I'm envious. Where are these garage sales that you guys keep finding this kind of stuff??? In my neighborhood I never seen to find anything better than old baby close. <sigh>
