Fisher 401b ... Looking for information regarding recent purchase

I am new here and hope this post works. I have added a few photo's that i hope appear here for you to see.
I recently purchased The Fisher 401B from an estate sale.
I can't believe the quality of construction and perfect condition of this item.
I am just looking for any information regarding this item... specific to history and actual value.
I paid $100 for this item and everything works amazing except for one minor issue.
THE ISSUE:
When i put a record on and push the arm to the right for the 'auto start ' nothing happens. However , when the record is finished the arm rises and returns to the rack on its own.
it appears there are lights above the manual start, start and reject words... but they never light up. EVERYTHING ELSE is working perfectly.... i just cant seem to figure out this 'auto start' feature.....

If you look on the back of the console there may be a full size 11x14 or so sheet with the model # and such on it. Take picture of that if it's there. The console is a most likely a 1969 S-594-CFL. 3rd down from top of the line behind the President and the Executive. The (L) probably denotes the installation of the cassette
Deck. There was also a CF. Country French in Distressed Pecan. Everything you've always wanted to know about a '69 Statesman, but were afraid to ask.

Can you scan the Turntable operating instructions complete, so I can get an idea of the problem your having. Is there a switch on the receiver that says something like AUTO OFF or PHONO AUTO OFF???? Make sure that is turned off. It kills the receiver when the turntable shuts off after the last play. You also might have a bad switch, or dirty contacts on the switch. Photo's of the whole turntable by itself will help. Top and bottom if not too much trouble.

im sure it just a connection or somthing but when i look under the turntable all the parts scare the heck out of me...

You did pretty good. The turntable probably needs a good cleaning out of all the hardened grease, and a relube. If the radio is working on AM and FM correctly, that's 1/2 to 2/3 of the battle. IIRC that radio as a standalone receiver is either the 400-T or 450-T. Pretty good stuff for 2nd Generation Solid State.

That turntable is one that very rarely shows up. If when you get it out (power cable with a 4 pin molex, 2-RCA's(left and Right Channel), and a ground cable) look for stickers on the bottom side and take pictures of them please. These could give us information on who actually made the turntable for FISHER.
 
The turntable appears to be a custom PE. I use the word 'custom', because I don't recall lights on the few PE 2040 that I have fixed. Not a pleasant machine to rebuild, but certainly worth the effort.

You got some fantastic bargain/time capsule.

I just saw the date of the last entry. Wonder why such a fascinating threrad petered out.
 
Seth; a lot of them are looking for basic info on what they got and possibly to flip. Not saying that this will happen or has happened here, but it's a possibility.

I have bills and more bills to pay, but my collection of audio gear continues to grow like a weed, without the willingness to sell even one piece.
I get great satisfaction from repairing these things. Hopefully it keeps my brain a bit sharp.

I own this same unit in the same finish minus the cassette player which was gone when I became the owner about 10 months ago. The turntable is tricky on mine too. Weird as it sounds, here is what works on mine. When I am ready to play a record, I give the turntable a spin with my finger and then move the lever to auto, it engages, then is fine from there. Very odd, maybe it will work for yours. I love the look and sound. Hope this helps. Beautiful console.
 
The Fisher 401b changer is a Perpetuum-Ebner 2038. So, a very complex changer. An excellent changer when all is correct, competitive with any Dual or ELAC Miracord extant in that era. That Fisher console is beautiful.
