How to disassemble a Yamaha tweeter JA-0513(NS-1000M)?

sorry about the double post, but it seems that this project would require it's own thread I'm thinkin'

anyone know how? this and the other both measure open.

I can get her this far, actually I did remove the screws but she never came apart.
 
Did you work at it for a while? Maybe they're just stuck from being
together for so long? :dunno:

Maybe there's some sort of sealant holding them together? :scratch2:

no scott, I never really applied any force, I didn't want to wreck her. New ones are $150US a pop! :yikes:
 
see, the 4 screws come out but the wire leads have some type of melted plastic or such covering the tops, at the 7 and 5 o'clock positions. Not sure how much force to apply, or if I should remove this sealant :scratch2:
 
Well, if the tweets are anything like the horn diaphrams I use
to repair, the face should come towards you - hopefully without
the diaphram attached to the face.

If you lift on the face evenly as possible and come straight out
from the body of the tweet, you should be okay.

I used to work for a professional sound company and I've repaired/
replaced more than my share of horn diaphrams, but never took a
tweeter apart.

I'm just going on what I've seen...

Sometimes it took a little extra effort to get the driver apart to replace
the diaphram.

Hopefully Gordon W will chime in hear and give a little more insight!

I think first thing I gotta do is clean that glue out of the groove. :yes: I don't need to be using any excessive force.
 
the glue had no bearing in disassembly, the entire front does come off!

odd, I checked continuity between the 2 solderpads, open. I checked from each pad to the voice coil lead right off the coil(this wire could be insulated though?), open...hmm. :scratch2: I konw they never worked when I first tried them, very, very strange!

yeah, I know dan, I know. Friggin wire has to be coated with shellac, can't get any continuity(it's only3/4" long!). I'll re-melt them solderpads, hopefully this weekend.
 
remelted the pads...to no avail

reason being, I can see about 1/2ways(right in the g'damned middle of the voice-coil), a small glint of light...I assume that's where the break is, damn! :cry:

anyone ever repair a voice-coil?
 
I can get a pair of NS-500 tweets, but they are,OD 1/2" larger than mine

I wonder if I could perform a voicecoil swap? I wish I knew the size of that NS-500 tweeter voicecoil

I had to pay for some car repairs...that left me a little short. hifido did confirm their's were working and provided me a shipping quote. (thanks for the link!)

I'm still debating as I can get a brand new pair for $80US more than his shipped(and I could pick mine up in person if I choose)
