Interesting. Another one on the recap bandwagon.

Speakers used as the goal for the Time Window were the DQ-10, Quad and Magneplanar.

I have been impressed with the Quad, and sold the DQs, Magneplanars and TimeWindows back in the day. Glad I purchased the TWs and have em to this day.

Now I need to talk to Steve about a pair of Beveridge speakers he mentioned in his talk.
 
That was kind of interesting.

I love my Time Windows, but they are WAY too difficult to get into to recap, so I won't even try until they sound bad which they luckily do not at all now.

I'm with ya... my TF700's are hanging in there and have never been "opened".
 
TF-700 'can' be opened. The early TWs it is a completely different animal and opening them is a project.

Maybe someone needs to ask Steve how to open them to do the work he seems to think should be done sooner or later.

I know I pulled a tweeter to reinstall an aluminum core in an inductor in a pair of TWs. I don't want to go into my speakers anytime soon.

That is a very optimistic price for a quad of Beveridge 2SW speakers. Even though new ones, made or much better materials or why make them, can sell for what 85k what makes one think the old model needing a refurbish are worth anywhere near that. But I would like to think they will sell for that as I have a set here that need a bit more work.

I think the Time Frames will be much easier to work on than the Windows.

I haven't messed with my TF-700's either and luckily they still sound pretty good. At least they did sound good until they were sent to live in closet for a while. But I think they will be making a come back into the living room system soon. The TF-700's always find their way back into the line-up when most speakers come and go.

And thanks for posting the video. That was cool.

I had no idea that the DCM name was linked to Pat Paulsen. Sounds like that was probably a pretty cool place to work at back in the day.

Nice to hear the reference speakers they were tryng to mimic over at DCM. Also a good description of why speakers need to be recapped. It is often mentioned but not explained and his explanation makes perfect sense.
 
Nah, track down Quads instead. I had DQ-10s, and DQ-10s ain't not Quads. Heck, neither are Maggies :)

That was an interesting link. Seems like a good guy.

DQ-10s with sub and passive crossover, should be finishing them up this weekend -
and they're already recapped! I just got a pair of rear screens and am putting them in place.

Other than that - had Maggies for a while, DQ-10s won out over them, and more recently I am playing with 2 pair of DCM TFs ...
Guess at some point I need to hear some Carver Amazings ...
