It was a dark and stormy night... woops wrong story.
So I have always wanted a pair of JBL L 100 T. It was never anything I thought I would achieve. How could I afford that? I'm still not sure I can, but read on. So I found a guy who had a pair and I thought what the hell I'll go take a look, at least I'll be able to feast my eyes on them. I get there and I'm all jazzed up to see (And hear) them he shows E'm to me. He painted the damn things black! What the hell! I could not believe someone could commit such a sacrilege to gorgeous wood grain cabinets, but wait the tale gets scarier. Not only did he paint the cabinets, but he replaced the woofers with some aftermarket crap, that's right he replaced the woofers! Apparently in a misguided attempt to find more bass. So I tell him all the mistakes he made and how that just destroys the value. I figure he'll stick to his guns and I'll go home disappointed. Well... I offer him $50 and he takes it! I did not prepare ahead (Lesson learned) and I have to take my Honda Accord home to take out some stuff so I can get the speakers in. I'm back and I start to pick one of these things up and just about bust a gut. I get it over to the car and I'm thinkin' Is this going in there? well with a little fenageling I manage to get em in and away I go.
Fortunately the paint seems to be coming off fairly easily, although some of it is still tenaciously sticking. I'd welcome suggestions on removing the paint without damaging the cabinets.
Now I need to see if I can afford to replace the woofers with originals. Well... Changed my mind Decided to let these go.
Stay tuned I'm going to post pics as soon as I find out how to do that.
