Let me preface this by saying I'm just turning 30 this year. But after watching this video, I can't feel more distant from the kids going to school today.

This is absolutely horrid. I've written the school district already (I'd be surprised if their servers aren't taken down by the end of the day).

I also live in upstate NY, but would hope that the school district my tax dollars go to would not allow this to happen (but I can only hope).

When we were kids I recall a bunch of students bringing cans of shaving cream on the bus on the last day of school. On the ride home they got in a shaving cream fight and made a mess out of the bus. The bus driver pulled over to the side of the road, pulled out a camera, and we all about crapped ourselves. Then she said, "Smile! I love you guys so much and I'm going to miss you!" She thought our antics were as funny as we did.

Based on the thread comments I'm guessing that's not the sort of thing that's happening in that video. I dunno.

I, mmm, normally stay away from controversial subject matter, especially due to my opinions & AK's rules, but on this one I have to say that this is the end result of what I call "The Lifting of The Hand."

There's some half-truth to the above poster's sentiment as not all parents are laxed in rearing their children. As a matter of fact, I know numerous wonderful parents that have raised their children to be respectful to others, but it is when they are away from them, the little demon on their shoulder talks to them & they listen.

I couldn't take watching for more than a couple of minutes & just pushed away from my computer & lowered my head in prayer.

A comment that seems to be flagged now stated the lady should expect to be talked about in this manner due to her being so-called fat. Hmmm!

I wish I could give the lady a hug too. :tears:

I just can't fathom having that much insensitivity to someone else's feelings. Especially an elder, who can be a source of so much teaching.

It's downright disgusting.

It's bullying. Same as bullying has always been. The only difference now is that everybody has a camera. It happened when I was a kid and it will keep happening as long as the world is filled with parents who are no more than grown up versions of their asshole kids.

Your comment, and Celt's, gave me a flashback to about 28 years ago. A kid who was in my class mouthed off to the crossing guard. Really rude. Embarrassing to the rest of us, really. The guard told him to keep moving and the kid got worse and said, "What are you gonna do about it?". The guard was holding one of those stop signs on a five foot pole, and he went Rod Carew on him. Watching that video, I kept hoping that lady had a stop sign in her purse.:yes:

I agree. And for all the "kids today" rants, it is getting better in some ways. Many years ago that girl that is off camera might have been surrounded by a bunch of guys and bullied, and the excuse "that she asked for it" would have been OK. It isn't anymore. The kid who is in the picture might had relatives who were bullied because they looked "different". That's not OK anymore, thankfully.
 
Is there any chance something happened off camera and the bus lady is getting retribution for being a douche?

I recall a situation when I was about fifteen. A group of us kids ganged up on an older couple in the middle of the night. It happened on a residential street. While we didn't hit them, we certainly had combative postures and threw every verbal insult we had at them. If only that was caught on film then people would say we were hoodlums.

Then there is the rest of the story.

Earlier that night a bunch of us were hanging out in my neighbor's driveway. We were doing typical boy stuff -- shooting basketballs, sneaking smokes, riding bikes in circles, whatever. Someone did something funny but I don't remember what. Probably ripped a huge fart. In any event we all laughed. At that moment a woman went by. She was power walking late at night. We thought nothing of it.

About fifteen minutes she came back with her husband. He threatened us with bodily harm for laughing at his wife. We tried to explain the situation and he would have none of it. His hard-headedness and proclivity toward violence almost cost him and his crazy wife a serious beating.

There is almost always more to the story.

This is why it should be legal to beat kids...

When I was a kid and in school, it was totally legal for that lady to bend me over the back of one of those seats and heat my ass up nice and bright red with a paddle..

And it happened to me a few times in school, and it also kept me and all my friends pretty much in line.

Of course today if you could do that, all the kids would trying to outdo each other and see who could get the most wacks..
 
You might be right, ebacon. But the Fellini wannabe didn't capture that. Just the tough guy poking at an old lady's stomach and calling names.
