Once upon a time I had a three Sony’s... TOTL...the biggest,the baddest...STR-V7

It was a great receiver, but it's too late,Sansui,Pioneer,Marantz and others have already taken their piece of the cake :tears:

Past few months I have big problems with my friend and best man. ..he desperately wants one of my vintage receivers, and I don’t like the idea that any of my Sansui leave apartment. So what to do? I offered him a Sony... He is thrilled :banana:

Since the device is in its original condition,there is a job I got to do...

First, let's take care of all the switches.

This time I made a test.
All switches have been chemically treated several times and they were in an ultrasonic bath for a few minutes.Take a look at DMM...resistance (between contacts) should be zero!!!

My thoughts are that you can't expect proper operation and good sound with such contacts.
I know that this is a pain in the ass,but the best way is to disassemble each switch and clean it by hand

That might be a wonderful idea - I have never been in this part of the world:yes:...

How does the Sony STR-V7 compare to your other units, specifically the Sansui's?

Tnx...yes you are right,sound is much,much better...you would not believe.
If I would have to say in percentages,I would say 50 percent,at least :yes:

I would like to know that too,but any comparison between them is impossible at the moment (lack of free time) and will have to wait.Fair comparison would be G8000,or my G901 which is still in its original state.
I read that many mention muddy bass on that Sony,but what I hear is very fast and clean sound and great stage :smoke:

and the last round before going to sleep...

I noticed one problem, the sound slightly turns down and go up again (like fade in/out) . It happens on a low volume level only...never on mid or high levels. I thought that volume pot is culprit but is not.Reason for that state is relay which is located in one of power amp pcb.

contacts are not burnt...so just a little cleaning is needed
