Wow is someone ever in for a big dissapointment if he actually plans on listening to them as opposed to looking at them. That kinda money could've bought some very nice looking and sounding speakers with a little research.
 
Holy crap! That is way too much! I bought mine for only $90! They sounded terrible with my STA 2000 receiver, but sound very good with my STA 2100 and Project One Mark 600 receiver. Go figure.

Not sure how Sansui speakers got a bad rap. My 1st real speakers were the SP-5500X that I got brand new along with the 8080DB. It sounded pretty good to me, but that was a long time ago. I do agree that they do seem to be particular as what drives them.

Sure is a pretty example.
 
wow...I've got some immaculate SP-2000s and couldnt even get 130$ for them on CL.

I'm too scared to sell anything on ebay.

I have had two pair. Could not give one of them away after auditioning them to many people.

That said, if you listen to classical or jazz, they are very nice. If you listen to pop, rock, rap, country, not so nice.

I tried mine with many amps and receivers, and they do sound very different with each.

Also, the tweeters, two in each speaker, are known to blow.

That guy always gets stupidly high bids...

I've seen plenty of his stuff relisted after an auction like that has ended.

He has nice presentation, but I smell shill bids.

BTW, those don't sound good. There I said it. Nice cabinetry though.
 
I don't believe there is anyone, anywhere, stupid enough to pay $500 for those things. I had to GIVE a pair away, and they looked like new in the original boxes. Jersey may be densely populated, but the people aren't dense about these affairs.
 
I sold a pair of the 2000's in the original boxes in mint condition for $150. The guy that bought them used to be in the military and he had a pair over seas when he was younger. That could be what happened with those...sentimental value.

The guy`s name is Gary Sauther (formerly gsauther ebay id). He and his wife do the listings and sales, and yes he does get pretty high bids for the most part, especially on RTRs, turntables, and some speakers. I recall he sold a PL-630 last year for over a grand. He`s got 4.9s across the board and if you sell 1000+ items these days on feebay, you`re likely gonna get a handful of bad buyers ripping you w/neg feedback. As far as the shilling comments go, let`s see something to substantiate the accusation, otherwise it`s unwarranted. The guy seems competent at finding and reselling very clean units and probably knows at least some basic tech skills. Perhaps more than a handful of his customers are repeat buyers from Asia. My own dealings have been good on some records and bike gear I won awhile back. I always got outbid on the TTs or amps I bid on, but say good for him if he gets top dollar.

As far as those Sansuis go, I had to give away a pair to a buddy for his auto body shop as they were nice looking speakers which happened to produce sound in some form.
 
Well the market determines price - in this case 4 separate bidders were prepared to pay $300+ for these speakers.

They sure look nice!

60's & 70's are hot now and I've had similar experience recently on gear that even a few years ago I.Could.Not.Give.Away.

Don't underestimate someone buying these simply because they complete the look they are after in a residential or commercial space.
