Curiosity got the best of me tonight and I decided to open up this Denon integrated amplifier. I had seen pictures on the net with this open but wanted to see for myself. The inside is very well laid out with nice symmetry. This thing is a beast. :music:

That's a lot of amp of the money, especially on the used market. I've had several Denon pieces over the years and thought they were very good. On an unrelated note, check out this tuner I ran across yesterday - no affiliation with the seller - but this has got to be an early example of denon hifi:

I've wanted one for some time. Some audiophiles over at AudioAsylum own, or have owned the 2000ivr. It was the best of that series, with the earlier ones too polite from my take. The PMA-A100 anniversary version is about the same.

Ya, this one uses mosfets. 80 watt per channel but you'd think it would be a lot more just based on the size and weight of the thing.
 
I love Denon and this PMA-2000IVR is one of the BEST integrated they ever build (back in 1996?). I was looking for one like that, in black version.

There's the "new version" (2012), the PMA-2020AE. This series has dual mono block, high current mosfets, very selected components, the capacitors are made under DENON specifications and, yes!, they are still made in Japan!!

But my interest now is on the little brother, PMA-1510AE (70 Watts RMS, 8 ohms), which has also dual mono block, same mosfet design and same selected components. Really well build...

Ok...having not ever heard one of these "MOSFET" integrated amps from Denon, and knowing not all amps using MOSFET transistors are good but can sometimes lure you to sleep, what is the Denon's like? Are they to polite and life less or other wise? Example....John Curl uses MOSFETS and his gears not boring, Nelson Pass uses MOSFETS and not boring....Some earlier amps by Classe' has used some MOSFETS and JFETS and where a tad to polite....what about DENON?
 
I had the chance to listen to the PMA-1055R (non-mosfet) when I went collected a pair of Magnat speakers. The guy also put a pair of Seas driven speakers and and since then I was caught by this brand. Depending on your speakers it delivers really deep basses, rich mids (but not that strident) and silky highs. Really pleasant. I also want to listen to the Mosfet versions, but I already know I'd love it.

Congrats! I really would love to have one of these beasts. They are now pretty hard to find in Europe! There's a guy asking 600 euros in Germany for one. Did you get yours new in the box?

I bought mine 2nd hand but for a really good price. I think it sounds very musical but not boring or too polite. It has a lushness to it that's nice to listen to, but it can bust out the beats too.
 
I tried to work out a deal on a PMA-2000IVR at one point, but it didn't work out.
I researched the amp pretty extensively and it looks very, very nice. I wish more companies would focus on building really high quality integrated amps like they do.

'boring and polite' also has been my observations of Denon amps. They need a lively pair of speakers. My Denon receiver sounded its best driving Altecs w/ horns.

That's true. A friend of mine has the DRA-1000 receiver for a small room matched with a pair of Monitor Audio RX2 and sound really impressive.

Note the this receiver has what the call "variable loudness" (like some Yamaha receivers) to help to manage in different sound environments...
