He gave me the whole thrift store

Well, it seemed that way.

A very, very, kind local gentleman whose name shall remain a secret contacted me in response to a CL listing I made and offered me his surplus records. He wanted them to go to a good home. I had no idea he meant so many of them!

After I got over being shocked out of my mind, I very gratefully accepted his gracious offer and loaded up the SUV. Glad I brought it, it was filled to the gunnels.

Lots and lots of box sets of Readers Digest, Time/Life, and Longines collections, all kinds of genres. I know a lot of people like these, and a lot of people don't. But I like them a lot, so I'll be enjoying these.

Lots of pop, lots of rock, lots of space-age pop (Enoch Light, London Phase 4 records, etc). Most of it in very good condition.

Only a couple really valuable records in terms of collectibility, but I don't care about that at all. I promised not to flip them and I won't; doubt I could anyway. The next stop for these was the thrift store, and now that they're with me, they have a reprieve.

And in the middle of all of that, a very, very, torn up muddy dirty moldy stinking copy of Blind Faith, the original Atco pressing. And the vinyl inside? Pristine. I cleaned it in the sink and I'm listening to it now. Blows the CD completely away. Hard.

What a good day it's been! And what a nice guy who gifted me all these records! How cool is that?

Wow, congrats! I have several of those Reader's Digest sets and I like them too.

And I have that "Fantastic" album on 8-track. It is pretty fantastic! :)

If you don't want those Longines collections, save the sleeves. They are very nice with the plastic liner.

Very nice, that ought to keep you busy for awhile! :thmbsp:

I'm about as happy as a record geek could be.

Holy crap!! Congrats Wiggy!:thmbsp::music: Man, what kind of ad did you place on CL?!

I just said if you have a lot of records sitting in your garage or attic or whatever and you just want them gone and you need to sell them, then I'm not your guy, but if you want to have them gone and you want them to go to someone who will listen to them and appreciate them, then drop me a line. And it's a fact. Mrs. Wiggy and I spend our evenings spinnin' vinyl when the Red Wings aren't on (and even if they are on if they are losing).

I figured lots of people have a stack of records sitting around that they keep meaning to do something with eventually. If they're collector-grade records, there are lots of guys on CL that will come over and buy them for cash, but they will want to pick and choose of course. I just offered to make the whole stack go away. Everybody wins.

Congrats and kudos to the gent for passing on the Karma!

Yeah, he's a super nice guy, he said he's been collecting records since the 1970s, and he and his son like to listen to everything under the sun. Kind of a father/son thing. But he's got so much it fills the garage, so some of it had to go.
