RSIIIa recap

I recapped my RSIIIa's a few months ago and never got around to posting some of the pictures. I would have pulled the crossovers but they were glued in there good, so I left it in rather than risk breaking anything. I might go back in at a later date to clean things up. Just realized these pictures are completely out of order. Maybe it'll be of some use to you guys anyways.

Looks nice, tough job to do in there. Were they functioning properly before the recap? If so do you notice a difference? Those yellow/white caps infinity used are of pretty good quality for their day. They used a lot of them in their designs. Probably why so many of their speakers are still around. Thanks for the pics...

Thanks,
I think they were working fine before but I didn't test. The foams were rotten so I just went ahead and did it all. The yellow caps on my newer DQ-10's were also sounding fine so these were probably ok too, but I did it to be on the safe side since I like to play it loud at times and have some bass heavy material. Treble-wise they sounded perfect before recap so they probably were fine.

Great job.
I've got a bag of caps on the bench for mine, too. Just can't bring myself to shut them down.

my 2 cents stu

First great job on the recap. Any chance you can post the parts list and supplier you used? Might like to go down the same path someday soon.

Amazing the difference in the way the XO's are in the RSIIIa models, and I assume other Infinity models by year. Mine look totally different. Mine also are mounted to plates that unscrew from the back. Much easier to get to the XO.

Ditto for mine. Mounted to plates and the pots are vertical.

Total came to $80 or something. I shouldn't have ordered the replacements for the big caps.

Also about the differences, one of the speakers had 2 caps (10uf + 6uf) make up the 16uf of one side lol. The other just had a 16uf. I guess they kind of just threw in what they had at the factory. I also found a razor blade in there that might have been from the factory haha.
