Having always wondered if the Azimuth of my phono cartridge stylus is properly set I have been looking for a way to do this with out having to spend a lot on hardware and or software that claims theirs is the best. Lets face it, the information set in the grooves of the vinyl record should not be wasted and getting as much of that information to the listener on ( minimal cross-talk) the proper channels is a good thing. In my search I found a method at Audiogon that only requires a volt meter. Hey! I have one of those.
Here is the method proposed and the one I followed

I used the 300Hz tone from a Hi-Fi News test record I have and here are my results
meter reading left channel with the right channel phono unplugged
1.945 volts = 46 decibels
meter reading right channel with the right channel phono unplugged
.024 volts = 7.5 decibels
right channel cross-talk = 38.5 decibels
meter reading right channel with the left channel phono unplugged
1.800 volts = 45 decibels
meter reading left channel with the left channel phono unplugged
.022 volts = 7.0 decibels
right channel cross-talk = 38 decibels
If the the left and right channel cross talk should at the least be 5 - 10% of each other then my azimuth is close to spot on. That is assuming I tested correctly and knew what I was doing.
