First off.. i don't work for nor have any affiliation with Emotiva or any other company they may own. I just came across this event on their site and since it's FREE for all to attend and is audio related. it made sense to spread the word. ( social gatherings around audio gear is what I'm into :) ) - community is the whole concept behind the BASS CLUB thing I'm very slowly putting together ( Boston Audio Stereo and Social Club).

Plus I've only heard one amp by them ( pretty nice) and I dig their marketing and business model. they seem to stay connected to their customers via all sorts of social and web media . I dig that too.

Lastly, they are donating 5% of their gear sales to the One Fund Boston. - so that also works for me. so I definitely think this is worth promoting to the local audio gear tinkerers. any event is only as good as the people who attend.

on the early side for me. leaving now.
never been to one of these and Emotiva has a small product line, so I'm hoping for a lot of product demos and listening opportunities. If it's just a sales floor, I won't stay long.
 
I should be there by 11:30 or so. Can't predict how long Ill stay. Jordan might be the youngest audio hobbyist in the room at nearly 6 months old. we'll see how long he can hold up. See you guys there.
 
It was good. When you get in, head downstairs to the lower conference rooms. I was very impressed with the larger monitors and the 6.2 and 5.2 towers in the HT room.

Also ask to check out the Winnie outside.

The pricing is amazing, especially for the speakers. The 5.2 sound fantastic and are less than $600 for the pair!

Overall I liked the format and the equipment. The folks there were very helpful. I'm not in the market for any of this stuff, but if I ever replace the DBX components with something new, I'd seriously consider Emotiva.

My only complaint is I wish there was a greater ability to A/B amps and speakers. Everything was direct wired for fidelity, but they could switch between the big amps and the smaller ones without disconnecting wires. Oh, and it was too dark to see the equipment.

But I scored a nice hat!

I'm with you there - too dark.
I did like the 2 channel system, very nice sound from those fairly small speakers. Maybe they had a sub running, again - too dark.
I went into the third room with the home theater but they didn't have anything playing - just on stand by or very low volume.
I concur, if I was in the market for new gear this stuff would be considered.

Didn't get a hat, just a keychain light and a hot-dawg.
 
I went in at 4:00. The two channel room was running those big monoblocs though the speakers. The Bob Carver tube amps were there but were not in the system. I felt that the tubes would have helped. it was a bit too astringent sounding for my taste. That being said, it's notoriously hard to make things sound good in those types of rooms.

In the HT room, the system at the back of the room was playing The Dark Knight Returns was on. It was fun to watch for a few minutes.
 
They had two Emotiva powered subs running with the B&W towers in the AM

You could have turned up the movie if you wanted. They were very cool about that.

Did you check out the Bob Carver "prototype" sub with the first HT display? Very impressive.


Did they ever demo the tubes?

Hey Don, sorry i missed you, i went in the A.M..

I concur with your take on the sound quality. As i was standing there listening i was thinking to my self " Don would probably not like this too much"
I found it very fatiguing and sibilant with the emotiva monoblocks and only a little better with the Carver amps. :sigh:
 
folks were playing things a bit louder when I first walked in ( baby in tote) so we sat out a few music demos but later as the room emptied I fired up some tunes at lower levels and thought things sounded pretty decent. I factored in the room acoustics , I played plenty of music industry parties and getting sound right in those rooms is a pain in the ass.

Overall I like what Emotiva is doing , both in their product evolution and with the brand in general. - I'm really interested in what they have up their sleeve with Bob Carver. Their sherbourn 2 channel pre-1 preamp - looks good on paper too. -

Prices are definitely more attainable for the average Joe, than say Indy Audio Labs ( Aragon/Acurus) . can't say how they compare , but since I'm not parting ways with my current "vintage" Aragon gear any time soon. I'm not exactly a prospect for either brand, but it's good to see that a few companies are pushing Home Audio and not simply falling into the world of Ipod docks , pc dac, and headphones. Seriously Cambridge soundworks? the Ooontz bluetooth speaker?. Henry Kloss is probably rolling over in his grave.

Emotiva's monitor speakers sounded pretty neutral, reminded me of the original KRK V8 sound only a bit less boomy.

I respect the fact that they are hitting the road and bringing their gear to places for people to see , hear and touch the actual products. Even the pro audio companies aren't doing that very much these days. Damn I miss those Remix hotel events.
