Never finds the good gear
White van scams. I'm pretty sure we're all aware of them. I was not aware of them until I joined AK, and had never encountered one before. I always thought it was just a mythical sorta thing, or one of those many things that "only happens in 'Murica" (sorry). How wrong I was.
Today I was driving to uni, just a normal day (bit wetter than usual). About half way to uni it started raining moderately, and I put on my headlights, as you do. A white van then drove up beside me, at 70km/h, and gestured for me to wind down my window. I did so fairly quickly, thinking that the guy in the passenger seat was going to tell me that one of my tail lights was out or something. It could have been important.
But instead of something useful, he called out to me (in the pouring rain), "Hey mate, do you want a brand new home theatre system? We've got one in the back!" After looking away for a few seconds, astounded, I answered with a "NOPE" and sped away.
I sorta wish I had answered with something witty, but I guess it doesn't really matter.
I guess the moral of the story is that these things do happen, and that people would occasionally get screwed over by things like this. But the lengths they go to to market this - on a 70km/h road in the rain whilst driving, woah.
