What's so special about them to warrant such a sum?
My uncle has something similar, and of-course they sounded good, but so do many speakers costing a lot lot less...

Same as with anything else: they are the best of one of the most known high end brands. Large. Beautiful workmanship. Rare.

Sound quality is nearly a "value add" for an item in this stratosphere. They are not intended for just anyone - they are intended for those for whom price is no object.

They are special, because they are expensive, which makes them special. As with all unobtanium - that's the entire point - exclusivity (and in this case, also decades of pedigree).
