Quite unique in their day....
and rightly so. I believe these were one of the first of the tangental tracking tone arms of the early 70s.
If yours is still working, this alone is a wonder. They were quite picky to set up - you need to be sure that the entire system is level just to get started.
Take a close look at that scissor-like arm assembly for cracks. Any binding will cause problems with tracking. Also, the bearing races should have little covers on them to keep out the crud. They had a tendency to pop out if the arm/table were handled roughly.
You should be able to use an n91ED or an n55 series Shure cartridge stylus assembly if the old one's shot.

More like a miracle! These things sold well for a very brief period, till the stores got tired of angry customers bringing them back. I'm sure of this, because I was one of them! The store gave me full credit for anything else. Can't recall what I bought with it...

The SLT-12 is an early 60s design - Saul M. was either still in or just already "out".
I am in possession of the original USA brochure for it, along other nicely laidout 1965 images, and I'll bring it all on TVK in january - a clever system if a little rude in its engineering.
One (the only...) TVK-registered SLT owner told me his was still fully functional and used daily.

Saul was very much in the company as it was designed and put into production before the transfer but production problems held up release. Though the 10b chewed up the capital of the company the tt was THE direct causation of the loan defaults. The big problem was the setup. The unit had a built in line level and the first thing that had to be done was to go get a pair of bubble levels. you needed to level both the base and the table with the cartridge pressure set. I used to see these in the used department and on inspection they were so so out of setup it was sad. The design though it looks like a real Rube Goldberg when correctly set up was 1 of the best sounding tables out there. I used to run the 12U with the ADC 25 and nothing came close in delivering the potential on the vinyl. About 2 years ago there was a rash of original gears and bearings on eBay for these and almost all I saw went overseas so I suspect again along with the Marantz 9, they may be favored in a certain country. These were pretty expensive at $495 (I remember) and were pretty robust so I think if you can find 1 it is worth picking up. I would have thought they'd be cheap on eBay considering the bad pres they have had all these years but no, they go for a pretty penny.
