HA!! And completely temporary as bookshelf designs rarely make their way into the rig...the little A. Jones Pioneer 22's are a recent exception. Amazing little bastards, those 22's.

1) I'm gettin there. ALL my acoustic treatments are DIY so, you know, that whole bit about Rome and how long it took to build it yada yada. More comin', I promise. Nobody warned me that building these things was habit forming.
2) Indeed. And it's all relative...once you listen to both you could transpose the subjects in your sentence and still be right on.
But I must admit....going from the Pioneers to the Infinities is like hot lapping in a Mini Cooper then stepping into a Z06.

The outboard 1D 11-well QRD diffusers (arranged in an inverted array) are made from rough cedar with the smooth side out on the well faces.
The three stepped diffusers (arranged in a profiled modulation sequence) between the QRDs, which the designer is calling "Leanfusers", are made from birch ply, hand sanded then brushed and burnished with a custom blend of dark walnut and cherry Danish oil.
Thanks for the compliments and I agree...I love the aesthetic of the wood and its geometry. Kinda makes my black absorption devices a bit of an eyesore. I'll likely recover them at some point in burlap earth tones.

I just realized there are wall diffusers on this photo which I really like. The wall is like a staircase, I think that is for acoustics. Yes? No?
You realized the other what is like a what........for what?
Parallel walls create undesirable acoustic anomalies...namely echoes. So yeah, probably a deliberate attempt there to combat that.

It's a repetitive pattern and sequence....fosters periodicity (not good). Doubt it.
Unless they're entry ports for Hemholtz resonators. :scratch2:

I think that's the side of the stage. Those steps are for getting reflections to different parts of the audience. I've done a handful of auditoriums (auditoria?) and that's kind of the only way to keep side reflections from just going to waste in the back of the room, even though the architects hate them because they eat up so much room.
A room designed for sound reinforcement is kind of backwards from a listening room. You wouldn't want diffusion so close to the stage.

Not as high performance a diffuser as my 7.5" deep, 11-well QRD's but not far behind and several orders of magnitude easier to build. Google "Leanfuser" and you'll get everything you need to know.

The stepped diffusers were MUCH easier to construct than the QRD's and here in a few weeks I'll start building several more stepped diffuser modules. I'll probably chronicle the build for those. Sorry I don't have anything for you on the stepped modules, but I just wanted to knock them out as quickly as I could. They were easily built in less than half the time it took to do the QRD's. I'm glad I have the QRD's as they are better diffusers, but if I had it to do all over again I might've just done the stepped design and no QRD's.
Now, something to keep in mind is the minimum sitting distance from the stepped design is four to six feet. QRD's can be made for closer proximity listening and I'll have to build QRD's for my back wall I sit about three feet from it.
The QRD's and center stepped module weigh just under 30# each and the outboard stepped modules around 15-20# each.
