Wharfedale Rosedale?

I don't know anything about the Rosedale except I think they were made around the same time as my Airedale SP's in 70 or 71. Wharfedale had a fire and has no information on my Airedale's and I would assume the same thing goes for the Rosedale's. I can't comment on the "hollow mids" on the Rosedale's but the high's and mids on my Airedale sound better than on my Paradigm studio 20's .

These look like the earlier Wharfedale drivers while the tweeter looks like a takeoff of the fried egg tweeter used in the WxxD series. The cabinet, I think, indicates there were from the far east and not British production. As for price, I'd suggest trying for a set of Wxx or WxxD series. Even the TOTL W90 and W90Ds do not fetch that type of money. If the tweeter is toasted I suspect it is going to be quite difficult to find an OEM replacement. Finding the more common fried egg type I and II tweeters takes patience.

Rosedale are W70E's and Dovetails are properly known as Dovedales !
I'm not totally sure but I think the Wxxx model designation was a USA market thing established by British Industries (BIC) , the USA importer of Garrard, Leak & Wharfedale.
Anyway, The last of the W70 series was known as a Rosedale in Britain and also by the Radio People in Hong Kong who mfg'd their own cabinets but used English mfr'd wharfedale componentry.
The acoustic suspension patent had expired so here was Wharfedale's chance to modify there superb W15 woofer and use it in the last of the W70 series as an acoustic suspension unit. The outer cloth suspension was replaced with a butyl rubber one for air tightness. Other changes were made to lower the free air resonant point.
The tweeters were excellent while they lasted. I found a replacement made by Morel several years ago. I believe it is still available at Madisound and is known as the MDT29. They will set you back about $40 each but they have the same flange diameter and use the same 3 mtg. holes. It's a ferrofluid cooled 1" soft dome rated @ 80w DIN. Sounds great in any w70 series with purple eggs that have fried. Check the flange diameter & call Madisound @(608)831-3433 for more specifics.---- I hope this helps----Dave

The first series of Dovedale,Rosedale,Airedale(named after small communities around the Wharfedale factory) and so on actually appeared in the 50's.No dome tweeter ,of course,but the Super3 instead.

I have found a console made by radio people,in contained a gerrard 98/4L,quad 22 control modual,a.m and also fm tuner, two very cool speaker cabinets. I opened up the backs and found i had to pull 6 square frames out w whool bottoms, no sand, i assume its been taken out or somthing for shipping.all speakers are wharfdale. Surrounds are deteriorated.and all cabs are amazing . Grills are copper. Came w alot of papers, specs on how to build ESL,S CABS,receipts fromm radio people, complete menu and prices, they did alot more than whardale, the man who origanaly purchased this package in 1957 paid around 7000.00$. Ive got all papers, and so much more, it this has been sitting in a den of a wealthy man ,obiously. For 60 + years.if any one has questions about this or how i have aquired it, im very happy to ellaberate.i have many questions my self!
