I pickup a 1 owner AU-517 last month. Going thru and just completed replacing the Caps.

Very Easy access, except the Power Supply Board needed to remove some wires to move around.

Replacing the Big Cans as you can see from the Picture.

Replacing with 15000uf/63v BC VISHAY (what McIntosh uses)

? on the Film Resistors connected on the Main Caps (1.0/100v).

After reading a number of threads....Seems these are not required as to Lower ESR caps being manufactured today.

Your thought's ????

DO fit the bypass capacitors, they are there to neutralise stray impedance seen at higher frequencies (not for ESR reduction specifically) - no matter what main capacitors you use there will always be a benefit if you fit the bypass capacitors.

The sharp eyed may have noticed that lesser models tend not have these capacitors (saving money), whereas the higher models very often have these capacitors included - sometimes more than one per main PSU capacitor.

Like those new main caps, very neat install. Curious, did you replace all the vd1212 diodes and fuseable resistors as you went through the boards?

The VD1212 will be next at a later time...Easy to get to...Like doing this in "Small Steps" as if something goes wrong easy to back track.

As I putting at least 100 hrs to Burn-In..this has Transformed the sound. Nice Clean and Deep Bass, Clear Mids-Highs. Fuller Sound over all.

There is another Thread on Marantz 1060 vs AU-517 and this is why I purchased this AU-517. I will be starting the 1060 Recap today. Not sure this is going to be a Fair Face-off as 1060 going to get Films. The 2230 that I had done maybe a better comparison as just Caps had been replaced...as with AU-517.

Very nice work, what was your source for the large BC caps-they look bad ass in there!

Sorry Pat...Did not see this....I buy some of the bigger caps and Films from this guy on Fleebay...Real stuff and not Fake.

A Sansui AU 517 arrived today in need of repair & recap.
Anyone have a capacitor list for the 517? The HiFiEngine service manual is missing the parts list.
