Here's another RCM to add to the list of those built by AK members. I collected parts for this over a period of several months, then built it in a weekend. The box, platter, and securing knob are 3/4" baltic birch plywood, with the box finished in Wilson-Art charcoal laminate for easy maintenance. The motor is from an ice-cream machine and not reversible, but gobs of torque.
The vacuum is a modified 120v Dirt Devil hand-held unit, also with lots of power. It collects dirt and cleaning solution into a small reservoir housed behind the corner door seen in the pictures, which is easily removable to empty. The platter rides on 3 nylon rollers so downward pressure is not an issue. Cork strips on the platter keep contact of the dirty side of the LP to a minimum while providing good friction, however I will replace with rubber strips as the cork sheds small particles.
One switch controls rotation, the other vacuuming. The finished unit measures 14" X 13.5" X 9" - I wanted a stand-alone unit small enough for an equipment rack. I'm using 80% distilled water, 20% denatured alcohol, and 2 drops surfactant; a common formula found here and elsewhere. Works great.
