Akai AA-1150 bulb info

Picked up an Akai AA-1150 a few weeks back. The thing was filthy dirty, but I figured it would make a good project for those times when I'm obligated to work evenings. It looks like a decent enough unit, with a nice solid build. Good fun when yer bored, and it only cost $5.

Cleaned it up tonight, and it looks fantastic inside and out. People that owned it must have been pigs -- used up a ton of alcohol wipes on it! :sigh:

It needs bulbs though, as they are all burned out. Of course, just to be helpful, there are never any marking on these things. Anyone out there know offhand what type of rating a bulb for one of these would have? I'm not very familiar with Akai products.

Start by measuring the voltage on the bulbs, and maybe take a picture of what they look like - then someone here might recommend a good replacment. You might have to solder something in place - my Akai tuner and amp have 8V 150 mA bulbs in them I bought from dgwojo here on AK. They slip into a little rubber holder and fit perfectly. The originals were 7V 250ma but these are just as bright and run cooler.

Sounds like the ones in this receiver, packrat. They fit into the little rubber holder as well, need to be soldered, and I'm guessing would be quite similar. I'll try the ones that you did, and see what happens. Not a particularly prized item, but it's just not right without some lights.

HMMMM, interesting quote, at any rate, maybe this unit will be a candidate for the catch-all 8v, 150ma insulated wire lead lamp in the top right picture, Dave. :scratch2:

Those 8v/150mA bulbs worked in a Sansui G-4500 (used 2), an Akai AT-2600 (4) tuner and AM-2600 amp (uses 1), and I had a Kenwood KR-3600 that would have used them except the bulbs were all still good. Thanks!
