A couple members on the Steve Hoffman sight have bought it and have nothing but positive things to say. One member compared it to his mid 90's semi budget Sony and said it blew it away sound wise.(not word for word quote but you get the idea) Now I just need to convince my wife I need this.
 
Nice buy but I keep pushing this TEAC CD-P650 due to the USB/iPod input. I'm very happy with mine as a CD player in addition to how great it sounds with my lossless files from my iPod Classic. It's on Amazon, too, for $136 with free shipping.

I've actually been thinking about replacing my AMC CD 8b with this Teac unit - because it can play MP3 and also play from a thumb drive. It looks like it has a good DAC too.
 
I got the Onkyo because my shop NAD515BEE failing again. It sounds good in that context. I spent the day cutting, sanding and finishing wood for the house and it made me happy. Better than the NAD? I don't know, but reliability is the key factor. The Onkyo Integra I gave my Mom lasted for many years so I am encouraged.

I considered a new Tascam T200 for $220 recommended in the new Stereophile, because my Tascam cdr is good and built like a tank.
The Teac because I remember an old thread on that.

I guess one would have to put them in the same set up to see which sounds best in your place.
 
Well, I think I researched this to death - even talking to my old friends at Onkyo about the C-7030. They confirmed this was a heck of a unit at Amazon's ludicrous fire sale price.

Ultimately, I took BMWCCA's advice and elected to purchase a player that also has a front panel USB connector. However, I didn't purchase the Teac unit he recommended. Rather, I elected to purchase the Yamaha CD-S300-RK: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003UWWPZ8/ref=pe_385040_30332200_TE_item

Here's why:

1 - I have a few open spaces in my rack this unit can occupy.
2 - I couldn't find anything but praise of its sound quality.
3 - I figured it was only fitting to upgrade my Yamaha CDX-900U with a new Yammie!

I'll be sure and let you all know what I think after I receive it. One thing is for sure - there are many excellent buys to be had in single CD players today. I'm anxious to hear what this kind of money buys in a Burr Brown 192/24 DAC. We will see.
 
Well, I ordered this unit on Saturday and received it yesterday (Wednesday). The company that I ultimately purchased it from, Pro Acoustics, was a true pleasure to work with - calling Monday to let me know that my order was shipping, etc. Nice.

So far, I'm very impressed. I did A/B it versus my 27 year old CDX-900U and the CD-S300RK definitely sounds more full and open. The bass is also exceptional. I've been listening to it all morning and it's been difficult to get any work done. I have not yet used it's USB features but will soon.

Honestly, it's hard to believe that such a product can be had so reasonably and from such a reputable company as Yamaha.
