Onkyo A-9050 in stock at B&H

After a lengthy consideration process, I ordered the Onkyo A-9050 integrated amp on July 22nd from Frys.com. (It meets my needs really well with its 5 analog inputs, 1 analog output, 24-bit DAC with 3 digital inputs, pre out, sub out, and phono stage.)

Fast-foward two weeks and it's still on back-order. Worse yet, they have no idea when (or if) the thing will ship. So I take a glance at B&H.com this morning and it looks to be in stock. I call and the very helpful phone rep says, "We have tons of those." Whoa, really? So I place the B&H order, cancel the Frys order, and save about $50 in the process. Expecting shipment on Thursday. Thank you, B&H.

I've been really interested in this amp but I keep getting hung up about the lower 4ohm power rating which makes me question the power supply. Let us know how it does.

Just checked the specifications as I am looking at it as well. :music:

Power Output 75 W/Ch (8 Ohms, 1 kHz, 0.08% THD, 2 Channels Driven, FTC)

Yeah, but then the manual states 65w into 4ohms, which I find baffling. Shouldn't it be more than the 8ohm figure? Also why no 20hz to 20khz ratings as is typical of Onkyo two channel stuff? Anyway, I'm sure it's nice kit and look forward to impressions. :music:

That Yamaha A-S500 looks pretty tempting too. Looks like it's out of stock right now though.

Its a good amp.
To be honest the sound is quite "bright" and modern.

The inputs are fantastic - the on board dac is a boon.

The preamp out works superbly with a power amp.
I`m running a pro amp off a seconf set of speakers.
Its very smooth and old school sounding, and the blend of the two , to my ears is perfection.

It was more of a happy accident than design.

|The Yamaha I suspect is a more old school sounding amp , similar sonically to the classic Technics stuff I`m used to.
All in all, the additional features of the Onkyo make it worth it, in my book.

Can't comment on the amp. Looks nice though. Does it come in Silver?

I've ordered from B&H before. They have very fast shipping and overall very good service.

I'm old. Wanting Silver gear isn't about nostalgia. It's easier for me to read the labels in a dim room on Silver gear.

Onkyo TX-8050

I bought this Onkyo a few years ago to replace my older Pioneer receiver. It features phono input and several analog inputs and digital inputs. Nicest feature includes Network connection for streaming internet music. It also features {WRAT} Wide Range Audio Technology. :thmbsp:

Nice but I would need it in silver. It is about nostalgia for me.

My main concern is Onkyo's somewhat patchy reputation for quality control and support in recent years - odd when they seem to put so much effort into engineering their products.

The issue with HDMI boards has been discussed loud and often across several dozen boards over the last 3-4 years yet Onkyo seems to have done nothing to remedy the issue. Hopefully that sort of slapdash manufacturing doesnt apply to their amps.
