I believe the woofers on the DSS-9s are graphite, and they can crack radially if simply tapped to hard - I had a pair that met that fate, and so have many more of them. So not easy to find any more, alas.
Most of the posts on this thread are a decade old, but old threads have a way of rising from the dead. So if anyone reading is curious about the Kenwoods mentioned, I'd disagree strongly with janikphoto about them. I found a similar pair of Kenwoods (but passive radiator design) in the dumpster and, out of curiosity, refoamed them (with generic surrounds, so maybe risking twenty bucks). I wasn't expecting much, given the plastic veneer and thin walled enclosure, but I was stunned at how full and dynamic they were. I sold them, for about what I had in them, to a friend, along with some standard reciever and CD player or turntable. Went to dinner at his house several months later, and I have never heard as convincing an illusion of Marvin Gaye - life size and dynamic, in the room, full range. I suspect a glass or two of wine was involved, but that is clearly the case in many cases of speaker enthusiasm.
I don't know if janikphoto had actually heard the speakers, and if he had, he is certainly entitled to his opinion. but if he looked at a lot of drivers and a Japanese name and immediately formed a negative opinion, I suggest that he wait to hear speakers before opining. The more speakers I hear, and the more I read of the enthusiasm for speakers I don't care for, the more open I am to the possibility of a speaker in a particular system and situation scratching some itch. And as I have gotten older and matured (from a very low starting point), I have gotten more careful about trashing things that someone else might actually really like. Tastes differ.
