Found one for $25 needs a stylus the fellow said he would bring it by tonight. I have not seen it yet feed back is appreciated.

you mean sl-1500? go to vintagetechnics.com and find your unit. it is a good solid mid 70's direct drive unit, near indestructible. if it is solid, whip a shure m97xe on there from amazon for $54 and away you go.

You won't find the M97xe at Amazon for that price anymore; its up to $89 now. I think thetwistergroup.com still has it for around $60+shipping.
Either way, should be a good table for $25.

i would definitely pick it up, if its anything like my sl-1700 u'll be more than happy with it, especially for 25 bux. see what kind of cartridge is on it, if its got a good one it could be worth more than the tt itself. good luck hope it works out.

Well after the fellow was nice enough bring it to me I went ahead and bought it. Its very dirty but works well, so far I like the sound. This is the first non automatic I've had so it will take some getting used to. The Shure cartridge that was mounted had a wood splinter mounted under the cartridge to adjust the VTA (looked like about 30 degrees), and the azimuth was out maybe 15 degrees. I bet his record collection of 1500 was in bad shape. I put my V15 in it balanced the arm and its playing without fault. I like it a little better that the RS LAB 400. I think the tone arm is a better seems smoother if you can tell that by touch. There's no play in any of the pivots and tracks very well speed is solid the and quiet. I got the orginal purchase receipt $180 3/77 and Op manual.

Yikes. That's not good.
I have the same TT in the family since new in '76. It did take a header off the stereo cabinet once but keeps ticking. Bulletproof is a good term for them.
I like mine fine, but never really known any different. Did you get a dustcover with it? If not, I did some looking (OK, a lot of looking and measuring) and am pretty sure the sl1200 (all series) cover will fit, though the original for this table was a flat cover the the 1200s have a dome over the tonearm pivot.
Now if I can only find one for sale separate...

A little surprize she does'nt spin at 45. I don't know if that could lead to a problem with 33. I have'nt cleaned any switches or controls but I'm guessing that will solve the problem.

I have one of these too. It sounds good with a grado red on it. The speed drifts a little on mine but I've read it is an easy fix. Just haven't done it yet. I just reset the speed every 3 to 4 albums.

Its been alot of fun for me I've listened to several TT's lately. This one came with a Shure M92E and has a very warm sound but its on the bottom of the quality list for sure. I think this TT's tone arm is a little better than my LAB400 but the 400 is quieter. I have a very low hum which I think is coming through the plith from the motor. I've messed around with a stethoscope a little while working with the 1500 and thats how I arrived at the conclusion. My guess is its being transfered to the tonearm. I still like the TT a lot though. I also got some Mr. Clean Magic eraser today it does do a good job of cleaning the stylus. You just let the stylus come to rest on it and your done very simple and clean.
