Hi there, first time poster but a have lurked this site for a while. Anyway, I am conducting a research project as the one of the final parts of my music undergraduate degree and I've chosen the topic of modern vinyl record culture.

I was wondering if anyone had interest in participating in a short survey I've written with some pretty rudimentary questions. As an incentive, I'll be giving away a few random prizes $25 or so dollars to a local record shop of your choosing (assuming I can contact them and work something out) for those who opt in at the end of the survey. This is of course entirely optional and privacy is otherwise ensured.

Completed the survey. Glad I can be a part of your education as well. It will be interesting to see what the results will be. Hope you will share the results with us.
 
I agree with jhstone that the survey was on the long side, though I felt that the questions were thoughtful and well-constructed. Good luck with the research project, and be sure to share the results with us here at AK.

Hi. I started to take this survey, but gave up. I believe if you are really serious about investigating the social and sociological aspects of vinyl culture, you need to re-think your approach. This document read as an editorial, not bona fide research.

The main reason I say this is that there was often no good way for me to answer the questions according to my actual, real-world behavior. The questions, rather, were pre-adapted to a very specific type of respondent, giving answers on a very limited range of behaviors that would not apply to the vast majority of the population.

It's an interesting subject, and I believe it deserves a better treatment. One man's opinion.

Given the venue for which this research is being done, I think the questionnaire was adequate. A more in-depth, precise questionnaire might be an idea for a Master's thesis. Good luck! :thmbsp:
 
I'm no longer a vinyl guy, so I didn't take the survey.

It's an excellent topic, and a great way to conduct research, IMHO. I have a BS in Psychology, and my research efforts were always boring and (seemingly) meaningless. I wish I'd had the internet back in those days.

Here's a minor point of (hopefully) constructive criticism; avoid the promise of randomly selected rewards to the participants. It just sounds a little shaky.

Of course this is just my pet peeve; I'm tried of all the bogus reward cards floating in our society. As if we're going to carry a card for every convenience store we might enter during our week. Do I want to shuffle 30 cards to get a 'punch'? It's just a cup of coffee.

I'm no longer a vinyl guy, but I took the survey anyway. You'll be able to weed-out my answers easily if my participation isn't wanted.






So...when do we get debriefed? I want to see your work when it's completed.
 
I still own records I bought in 1969, so the current interest in vinyl thrills me. I remember the dark days in the late 80s early 90s when LPs disappered. The horror, the horror.
