My first Vintage Sony piece, I like it...

In Twang We Trust
I've been eyeing a lot of vintage Sony stuff over the last couple of months. I have never had the opportunity to audition any of these older pieces and I really wanted to add several of their amps to my collection. Yesterday while out yard sale-ing I came across a deal to good to pass up...... A Sony integrated TA 1055. It is a small simple piece, and after a simple clean up is a great preformer as well. It is driving a pair of KLH 6's effortlessly.......long story short...great little amp, and for 7 clams I walked away with the amp, a Dual 1215S w/empire stylus and cartridge(works) and a packet of goodies including two Large Advent original manuals, several original Large Advent test result/review articles, even a small sealed mainilla envelope with the original Advent felt pads. All of the paperwork/manuals for the Sony and Dual pieces. Plus a Shure Stylus Force guage, some old record cleaning equipment, and this other thing-ama-bob that I have no real clue as to what it is(I suspect a record cleaning apperatus of some kind) I love Yard sale season...

Nice start out of the gate on garage sale season. Not listed in Orion, but looks like it may be around 20 wpc.

Nice score.....

the little Sony amp is about 15wpc, IIRC. It was their low end integrated in about 1974 or so - the memory's foggy from those days :smoke:. I wouldn't be a bad idea to check it for leaking electolytic caps and clean those sliders.

The Dual should clean up nicely but be aware that most of the greased sliding pieces will be sluggish or siezed due to dried grease. Make sure you clean the small connections on the back of the headshell holder at the outer end of the tonearm along with the RCA connections underneath.

On the Disc Preener, it was a little jig that you placed on the TT while the LP was being played and it cleaned the dust/dirt out of grooves just in front of the stylus. It was a balanced arrangement and there is most likely some sort of suction cup on the back corner of the TT plinth where the fulcrum would have been mounted. The little do-dah in the oval case is a stylus cleaner - there's a groove in it where you slid it across stylus from back to front.

You have a Dust Bug that is like a tonearm for cleaning while playing and a Parastatic Disc Preener which has a central tube with a thing in it that is supposed to be dampened. The central thing is a 1/2" diameter tube with a sponge material in it that holds the water to keep the preener at higher humidity so it holds the dust from the record and reduces static. It was my first record cleaner. I used a dust bug too, but don't remember if it was mine or a roommates. Long time ago. And that Shure SFG-2 probably worth the 7 bucks alone, the rest was FREE!!! Nice get on the amp for free!!!

Yep, the entire Watt's record maintenance set. When you open the centre of the preener, you may catch a whiff of a slightly musty odour. If they weren't properly allowed to dry after use, there was a risk they would eventually go mouldy.

Good stuff, the Dust Bug the best idea. They used to sell the little brush and fuzzy roller as replacement parts, doubt they're still available. Clean them with the stylus cleaner.

Thanks guy's,...
Yea, the amp and TT were great finds but what I really dug was little packet of extra's. I mean there are warrenty cards and receipts as well. It's the little neat unusual stuff that is the real treat.
