My ears are bleeding
First I want to thank Dave "nosense" for his many years of service to our country. I want to thank Dave for proving that there are still some honest blokes out there. I want to thank Dave for a magnificent job of packing "his" babies up carefully and completely and using double wall boxes so that my babies would arrive safely. I want to thank Dave for his professionalism in hashing out the details of our transaction, including details about packing, etc.
Now, on to the speakers. There was a minor casualty, but I suspect I'll be able to correct it relatively easily. In the jostling one of the grill pegs broke off. It's still in the socket so I'm hoping to extract it and affix it back to the grill. Minor.
They'll need foams, which I'll order shortly. I hesitated due to my fear for the worst, but using USPS and 2-day delivery paid off. These buggers, by the way, traveled from FL. I'm in OR. Only "contiguous" distance longer would have been living in WA.
Hooked them up and played at low volume briefly to confirm they were in working order and at low volume these things sound impressive. Can't wait to hear them in good working order.
I'll likely do the same with these woofers that I did with the S-710 and S-910 and go rubber surrounds. Those are working perfectly on the other pairs of speakers and I suspect will do well with these.
Cosmetically they are 9/10, with one being slightly better, fewer "minor" scratches. Given the age, perfectly normal and better than typical.

I had my woofers redone with rubber surrounds by Parts Express. Having owned HPM900, HPM100, and the CS series equivalents, I can tell you DSS9 blow away their predecessors. The drivers are top notch, and that DSS bass circuit design really is something special. I haven't gotten around to recapping; the crossovers are quite complex. Definitely keep us updated!
