Hi everyone,
I just received this Rotel RB-5000 off of that auction site and I need some guidance and ideas from all regarding getting this monster back on it's feet. This size of amp is foreign to all of my previous amateur attempts at repair so any help is appreciated. If it ends up being too complicated, I may just find a technician locally to take a look at it.
Here's the problem:
-Protection circuit engages pretty much immediately when the speaker selection is made. Seems to engage the protection circuit quicker when B and C relays are engaged.
-One of the fuse holders on the right side (power supply or drive boards???) is broken off. Will test continuity tomorrow or next week.
No output since protection circuit is engaged.
Any help would be great. I have read that these amps are rare as hen's teeth so it may go to a technician who would be more comfortable repairing something like this. Power rating says it draws 3200 max watts (!!!), 500 watts into 8 ohms and 950 watts into 4 ohms!!! And yes, it is extremely heavy to carry. It dwarfs much of my other audio equipment.
Thanks for the help/advice!
