Teac C-3X Tape Deck, any info???

Teac C-3X Tape Deck? --Updated with pic.

I picked up one of these beasts for real cheap ($10), however it is in definite need of some new belts. Cosmetically it's in mint condition so I'm hoping that is in fact the only thing wrong with it. It 'looks' like it could be a nice deck (it has the brackets to mount on a rack so I'm guessing it may be a pro model?? that and it has 3 heads), but I've yet to find any info on it, so I was curious if it's worth getting fixed (if I can find a place to do it that is) and how much I'd be looking to spend to do so. A tape deck is the only thing missing from my system at the moment so hopefully this is worth the time. I'm not home otherwise I'd post some photos, but I should be able to do that come friday or so. Thanks for any replies.

It's probably not worth all that much, but it does appear to be an old pro model. I can't tell which noise reduction options it has, but it looks like it may be one of those odd-ball machines that can run at 3.75ips.

I have the Tascam 122 Pro Mark 1 which is the same deck. It is a very nice deck which is the first of the line of pro models that are still being produced and used by Radio stations. I actually use mine in my main system instead one of my two high end Nakamichi 3-Head decks as it is much less finicky than the other decks and if playing back tapes recorded in High speed the sound is also much better. Teac makes replacement parts for the decks and will most likely have some belts for you. In my opinion it will be far better than any other ten dollar deck you could have found.

122mkII here :)
I can attest to the longevity and indestructible nature of these decks!

Nice deck

Had a 650 TEAC. Very similar to yours! Nice sounding deck. Good luck with the belt. Its a bitch!!!! Mine had a belt melt down. Nice gooeey mess! Hopefully this did not happen to you. I used denatured alcohol to clean up the motors pully. These decks have two wheels and the pulley on the motor. You can get the belt from Bob at Vintage. Its very tricky!!!! You need to loop the belt around the far pully and under the pulley nearest the motor. Good luck and I hope you have small fingers or a wife, girlfriend or sister with tiny hands to loop the belt. I got big hands and did finally get it on :thmbsp: Good luck Eric :music:
