OK so I got em

Bass is good Mids are good and highs are hit and miss. They have this dial on the back for "Brilliance" and they are loose and prolly wore out. Check these drivers. I believe 3 ways and the second woof is the main bass driver? Pretty easy to recap I reckon since it could only help with the highs. Thing is the foam behind the tweeter has blown out on the bench and I have no idea as how to fix. I think it was just for dust prevention. Anyhow ... anyone ever seen such things?
And dig that Murph and the MagicTones grill cover

That main driver is a University 312 Series 200. It's referred to as a "triaxial", because that seperate little cone with the holes acts as a mechanical midrange. The tweeter is the Sphericon, one of the first fabric dome tweeters made. The brilliance control is simply a tweeter pad.

Never seen them in a cabinet with the other bass driver; pictures of that one would help.

I have a pair of 312s myself (although they're in storage). I also have the spec sheet that came with it; I can send you a copy if you like.

Happy trails,
Larry B.

It seems (unless someone went into these) that the 2nd driver is passive. I pulled both speakers apart and found them to be the same set up. same part number on the spider/cage. Funny dope on the surround. Shiny thick stuff. The cabs are sealed well since I pressed on one driver and the other moved nice and slow. Any clue on a replacement cap on this? looks like a simple job for sure.
Hell I figure these cabs gotta be worth 50 bucks by themselves.

I have a set of these that my dad bought in 1962, I believe. There is basically nothing coming out of the tweeters. I'd like to try to recap. I can't figure out how to get the back cover off, except by possibly prying off the emblem which seems to be glued in place. Any suggestions on how to non-destructively get the back cover/emblem off?

Thanks in advance!

Larry, I'd be interested in a copy of that spec sheet. Not sure how to proceed from here, but would be very grateful for your help.

Thanks,

Don't try to remove the back panel. Do all of your work on the speaker through the speaker holes. Remove the speakers.

Hmm. Well, okay I'll give that a try. Pics I've seen showed the capacitor inside the cover and it didn't look like the capacitor could be removed unless the rear of the housing was removed. I assume you managed to do this yourself? Please, I don't mean to question or insult. These are my dad's speakers and I want to do this as respectfully as I can.

Thanks for the tip!

Have a pair of Uni senior lll
Don't think I've seen another lll but do find lls
3way
Stuffed port a periodic enclosure

Don't know how to take off grilles.
The backs were screwed and glued/ducts eased but it had dried out
Recapped em
They're good classic Vintage sounding speakers
Not good on rock imo

Music from that era sounds great
Music in keeping with that era
I plan on selling mine now as I'm loaded up
