Do female audiophiles exist?

The "Why do women hate Cornwalls?" thread got me thinking...

Do female audiophiles exist? Do they care how stereo gear sounds? Do they put on a favorite CD or LP and sit and just listen to it? Do they care that Speaker A has a more natural midrange than Speaker B?

Seems like most are satisfied with a Bose Wave Radio.

Store owners, have you ever heard a woman say, "No, I think we should buy these speakers, Honey... We'll get rid of Grandma's old rocker and rearrange the furniture. We'll make them fit. They sound so much better than those little bookshelf speakers. And I think we need at least a 100 w/ch receiver."

Are there any female audiophiles around? :scratch2:

Yes my friend Jeannie is. She has a nice VPI with a rega 300, a yammy receiver, large advents, runs a shure V15IV plus has a PL570 as a second table. So yes there are some. Oh one more thing she even has a homemade record cleaninng machine and is annal about her vinyl. :thmbsp:
 
Discounting the use of the term "audiophile," which I don't use ordinarily, certainly there are women who appreciate quality music reproduction. I see a bunch of broad-brush painting going on in the above post.

For all the things I didn't agree with her on, my ex was one. Granted, she may not have been all that familiar with equipment when we first met, but she was a pretty quick study, and had/has as good an ear for things amiss as I do, if not better.

Stereo equipment always dominated the living room of wherever we lived, and she participated in the decision-making for any serious purchases.

Her current system has a set of mint Dahlquist DQ-10's (that I traded her to get my DQ-20's back), a Denon POA-2400 (200 wpc), Denon PRA-1200 pre, Denon DP-47F tt, and a Toshiba 3960 dvd/cd player. And she knows how to use it.

It may be mostly a guy thing, but not every woman wants Acoustimass toy speakers with doilies on them.

I have never met any woman whose interest in equipment matched my own. But that is not saying female audiophiles don't exist.
 
define the term Audiophile.

We can go from there.

My wife is getting into my stereo from a users point of view. Asking questions and making suggestions about what music we listen to and why. At the same time she has records that are hers (you can tell she put her name on them) and she collects various artists.

Is that an audiophile?
 
I think female "audiophiles" DO exist, they are much rarer than their male counterparts. Why they are so few is the real question.

I'd define an audiophile quite simply: Any person fascinated by the technology and use of such in sound reproduction.

If there IS a female among us...please speak up! :thmbsp:

One (1) of the three (3) founders of our club is female.
Not only is she an audiophile but she has a great deal of knowledge of this hobby and has been interested in it for many years.
IMO, they do exist, just there are not as many as all of us males would like there to be.
 
I don't know about "audiophiles", but I met a very nice female AK'er this weekend and her husband at the Fest. And another one of the wives' spent quite a bit of time discussing how I built my homebrew record cleaner too.

So why there aren't a lot of ladies into the hobby, there certainly are some. FWIW, they're just as down to earth and level headed as the guys I met this weekend too. :yes: :thmbsp:
 
In this case I use "audiophile" rather loosely... I would define it as anyone who enjoys listening to music, and has some knowledge of the equipment used to play recorded music beyond the ability to find the power switch and volume knobs.
 
I must of been speaking to the same couple that Andyman was.She was really into stereo gear,and IIRC their speakers are Cornwalls....

That about sums it up for me. Men will always have toys and woman will always have their gardens. We think different.
 
I'm sure there are some just like there are men who like to shop for shoes, but they are a rare species. It must be a genetic thing.

My wife is as into listening to music as much as I am. She just isn't as into the gear. At any time in our house, we both have our systems going in seperate parts of the house, and hers is usually louder than mine.

Heck, yesterday she about floored me when she told me that my set of HPM-900's really looked good. That's high praise coming from a chick who usually just smiles patiently whenever I fill the front room with newly aquired gear. Unfortunately the HPM's are probably getting parted out, though it was nice to have her active approval. I wonder if she'll approve of my moving the Mach 1's into the livingroom. :scratch2:
 
My affection of vintage and pre-surround sound gear have conspired along with my collection of fast motorcycles and cars to keep me single. I was making good with this one gal that I'd been dating for a couple of weeks, and finally got her over to my warehouse, which my friends have dubbed "The Bat Cave". She was absolutely dumbstruck. The motorcycles and cars and shop equipment didn't faze her that much, since she kinda had an idea about that because I'd always pick her up in something different when we went out, but the entire wall of electronics did her in. She didn't understand any of it, but then I had a hard time trying to figure out why her entire house was filled with antique furniture in various stages of disrepair, so much that her garage was filled too, and she parked her Lexus outside. Priorities, I guess.
 
Well I don't know any audio savvy chicks, but there is this really hot chick that shoots at the same shooting range as me. I see her there all the time and Im there allot :yes:

You know, I thought about asking her out, but I kinda figure that Id piss her off real good eventually and she shoots a cannon as big as mine so.......
 
I've met a total of two in my entire life. They are rare as heck. :sigh:

However, my wife, who is by no means an Audiohile does really enjoy high quality sound reproduction. She has zero inherent interest in the equipment, but she does like it when I get a new piece of gear that makes her music sound even better.

She can be a pretty discriminating listener too, with a little coaching. I frequently sit her down to listen to confirm that subtle changes I hear are not simply figments of my imagination. But even this level of interest from a Woman is quite rare.

you might want to put this dinosaur relic back in the dusty cupboard you pulled it from.
