I suspect that recapping certainly wouldn't hurt. You may also find that they play best with a different receiver/preamp/amp combination. I have several sets of Fisher speakers and find that they are quite sensitive to the input. I have a pair of recapped XP-60S speakers that sound pretty good when powered by a Sansui G-6000, but they really sound good when driven by a Sherwood 7100A. Part of that is due to the "tube" sound of the 7100A, but I suspect that Fisher designed its speakers to be played with tube or "tube-like equipment.
