Vandersteen 2 Speakers Not 2C

There are a pair locally I'm thinking about. How are these different from the 2C speakers? Do these have rubber or foam surrounds? Anything else I should know about them? I've heard a lot of good things about the 2C's so I'm wondering if they compare well to them.

Thanks

Couldn't get a good look at the serial # in the pic you posted. Often, sellers w/o familiarity ( 3x on eBay in the last few months) with the line will advertise 2C's as Model 2's as they look exactly the same on the outside. The distinguishing feature is the serial #. If it ends in "C" it's a model 2C. I have never heard the 2's, but I love my 2C's. Contact the seller and find out the exact serial #. If they are local, go & listen!

2C Info

If you want, I have all the original factory material for my 2C's. I can scan it and send it to you. PM me if you want it.

Duff,
What's the serial number on those? If it starts or ends with a "C", those are the 2C's. They look exactly like my 2C's anyway.

I have the picture downloaded to my PC and if you blow up the picture you can make out a C at the end. So your 2C's don't say C after the 2? Are they rubber or foam surrounds? Anything else you can tell what to look for?

Thanks

That is correct, my Vandersteens are the 2C's, but the "C" is part of the serial number. If the ones you're looking at have a "C" in the serial number, they are indeed the 2C's.

The resident expert on the Vandersteen's is "GordonW" and hopefully he'll chime in here on your other questions.

It is my understanding that the foam on the 2C's is the non-deteriorating type. I've never had the "sock" off mine and they sound fine. I had them at the AK Fest this year. One thing they do really well, is the female singing voice.

Great thanks. Now if I hear back from the owner I'll go grab them.

I can't really tell from the pictures, but do those have the factory stands attached to them as well? Mine do, and they are nice to have.

Shorting Straps

Do these need shorting straps between the speaker terminals or is there some sort of switch used when bi-amping? I don't see any in the photo of the back.

Yep, you need the strips, otherwise you can do what I do, bi-amp them.

Maybe the seller thinks they don't work properly because of the missing strips.

My 2C's are bi-wired. When I first got them, an AK member advised me to use jumpers and not bi-wire/amp. I contacted the Vandy factory to obtain jumpers and and they VERY strongly advised bi-wiring or bi-amping!

Dude, you get those Vandy's up and running and I cannot wait for the A/B against your L810s. Many on here have written that the Vandy's are in a higher league... could not be more fired up for you!
