pesky zip-lock outer sleeves!

Well, even though they are great for keeping the dust out, the larger size of these obscures the spines makes it darn hard to find the LP I want sometimes. Spent twenty minutes trying to find Stan getz and really, I don't have that many LP's. Looks untidy too. So this weekend got me a box of the slightly milky, smooth poly outers and just finished replacing about 250 covers. That'll do for now.

Hey, now I can actually see which LP is which! Any one else have hassles with the zip locks? With the new outers, I have the opening facing up i.e. have to take the whole cover out to play but figure that's better than have LP's slide out all the time.

End of the minor rant.

No probs with ziplocks on this side of the Tasman.
Mine have stayed transparent, some are well over 10 years old.
I prefer sliding the inner out rather than taking the entire LP out of it's protective cover.

Do you feel that the ziplocks are worthwhile? You have them on all albums, rather than the ones you don't listen to much?

Just wondering about their value. I have a hard time reading the spines of my albums even without the zips- but if they perform a valuable function, do more good then harm, I will look into acquiring a few.

The only soccer apparel I have is an All Blacks hat. Fortunately, I don't believe anyone else in this area has heard about them, so any slumps will be unnoticed. Unfortunately, so will the good times

What can I say? The wallabies tackled like custard puffs. I've only been closely watching Rugby for the past two years and this is the best I've seen the All Blacks play. Based on the pasting your guys gave the Springboks, I was totally expecting this result. Not just us, but the r.o.w. in trouble if they don't come up with some answers soon. Hey I'm sure Walt's a happy chappie too.

The ziplocks here are at least 1 cm too wide and I store my LP's spine facing out hence the prob. The ziplocks smaller in NZ?

I'm only a casual watcher.

Local ziplock record bags are similar to yours, about 15mm taller and 20mm wider than an LP sleeve so the LP can slide around inside and they can look untidy on the shelf but I haven't had any problems in reading the spines.

Yes, I use zippies on all my LPs.
They are a bit thinner than bags with flaps or sticky edges etc. but they do seem easier to use and they are cheap !

Of course it's Rugby- don't know why I put soccer (yea I do, but I hate to admit mental breaks ). Have mucho soccer apparel, only Rugby team I took an interest in was the All Blacks in 99 or so.

So the purpose of the zips is to keep out dust? I thought that sealing up the records was bad for them? Or, is that just from the pressure put on records from the plastic seals from the manufacturer?

Hi Reyne,

The ziplock bags are loose fitting, hence some of Jack's problems.
They are used to keep dust out, vinyl freshness in.

It's leaving records in the factory applied shrinkwrap that can cause problems.

Not so much when the record is left unopened and still wrapped up, but when the shrinkwrap is opened on one side and not totally removed. This may cause warpage due to the uneven pressure being exerted on the record.

Nice and neat row of vinyl. Can't read them all but seems there are a few Classic records reissues of shaded dogs? I've yet to try any from their range. Do you have the Brahms Violin Concerto with Heifetz/Reiner? I have a RCA UK Red Seal that sounds amazing even with some rice krispies.

Another St Vinnies find was Belafonte at Carnegie. Uk pressing on RCA Starcall. Don't know how it compares to the orginal but it sounds darn good to me.

I used to buy a few factory sealed LP's (US imports) in the 80's and never had any problems with warps. Not sure what the effects are if they have been left sealed for 20 odd years. I've read about a few people opening some of these NOS items for the first time to find them warped. Could well be they were just poorly stored.

Anyway, giving up them ziplocks. Some big time pot grower might have a use for them.

The prints a bit fuzzy due to low lighting but it shows that it isn't obscured by using zippy bags.

Got a few Classics, all bought when our dollar was high.
I might have that Brahms somewhere but as an RCA Dynagroove I think .......YUKKK

Those RCAs and mercuries were some of teh finest soudns ever recorded.

Had a Belafonte mono but all snap-crackle n pop.

I still have about 30 new zippies.
A bit big for a baggie....
