Electro-Voice E-V Fours - Good find?

I picked up a decent pair of E-V Fours at a Habitat for Humanity store today. Paid $6 for the pair. I won't have a chance to try them out until tonight, so I was wondering if anyone had some info or an opinion about them.

Thanks

I love my Fours. They have bottom end that many speakers lack. Great price by the way, worth much more than that in sound.

I am finding that they have nice bottom end, but lack in the upper end.

They seem to work nicely with my set of KLH bookshelf speakers that have nice warm upper end and lack bottom end.

I also like to use them with another set for just that purpose. However, different receivers have brighter characteristics and will bring the top end out more depending one what is your source input. They are a great add for just how your useing them though. I like their "warm" sound.

A buddy of mine uses a set of EV Four's with his Fisher 800C. A perfect match in my opinion. Plus, $6 for the pair? Excellent find!

Those have a nice horn in them...if the highs are off it may because the cap's in the crossover are out of tolerance being as old as they are. That is a simple crossover so replaceing them should be pretty easy with some basic soldering skills.

Late to this party, the L-pads get dirty on my 4a's, then the mids/tweeters work again. Still respectable sound. Bought in 1969, I wonder if the "indefinite warranty" will be needed someday?!
