ATC neoplanar upgrade

Just upgraded my DIY Bohlender Grabener RD 75 line array dipoles with ATC Neoplanar 25"'ers for increased resolution, power handling, and coherence. The improvements are substantial, with even better imaging, greatly enhanced power handling, and "jump factor" beyond belief...

the wife says "thanks for inviting all these NYC jazz musicians into our living room..." :music:

Never heard of them but I am guessing from looking at them they sound fantastic!!! Nice. :thmbsp: Big ribbons, line source, and narrow baffle, yummy.

These are the same guys who build the LRAD focused 150 dB sonic weaponry for the Defense Dept. and crowd control agencies.....

Any chance you're selling your old ribbons? (Trading in your old ribbons for some $$$ can increase WAF exponentially, providing you then spend the money on taking her out to an expensive restaurant.) I could also build you a music server, or something.

Those things look awesome. Are they active speakers?

If not, you might want to consider some LM3886 or LM4780 gainclone amplifiers, depending on power use. A paralelled LM4780 amp can put 120 watts into two ohms; a bridged/paralell set of two can output 360 watts into two ohms. A Linkwitz active crossover would make adjustments to the crossover cheap and easy, too.

Wow, I've looked at the big ribbons in the PE catalog and have always wished I had the time and money to try something with them. Those look amazing!

Wow!

I dunno a thing about designing speakers, but I'd love to hear a set of those 75" BG ribbons next to 3 of the 25" in a line array. The result would be similar to my present speakers, a huge tall line array, but with no comb problems at all! Would something like that work?

These do act like a line array... except for the "array" part... the 75" ribbon is a line source... moves as one.. so no combing problems...

I was originally gonna do a line of the peerless HDS mid woofs up the open side of the baffle, but after mounting the 2 lower ones, I had more than enough mid bass to cover from the 600Hz - 50Hz range below the RD75's.

These are dipoles as well.. they float an incredible image all over the house.. music flows everywhere and sounds like the (group/musician/orchestra) is playing in the living room where they're located. Incredible "jump" factor...

i added the ATC ribbons to "see what they'd do"... boy what an improvement... listening to remastered "Dark Side of the Moon" I can now very clearly hear the female voice talking behind the explosion at the end of the "Time" cut b4 the cash registers start ringing... my wife thought I was talking to another woman from the other room

i picked up both ribbons (BG's and ATC's) off of ebay for less than 1/2 of their normal price...baffles are 1 1/4" local cherry boards.. it was (is) a fun project...
