Mitsubishi DA-M10 meter

I reciently purchased a DA-M10 meter on e-bay to go with my DA-A15C amp, DA-P20 preamp and DA-F20 tuner that I purchased new in 79-80. I have the instruction manuals for the origional components, but not the meter. I attempted to hook it up as I thought it should go between the pre and the amp and was able to get normal sound and the meters moved. I did not have the remote speaker wire connected to the meter as I did not know where it should go.When I tutned the meter off I got a loud SNAP through the speakers. At that point I decided to ask for some help. It doesn't appear that I did any harm to my origional system. Can anyone please explain the correct way to add the meter to my other beloved components. I would also love to get a copy of the meter's instruction manual. I would gladly compinsate for your advice and or manual. Thank you, Mitman

you might get some help Mitsuman he will show up on this thread he loves his mitsu stuff seems to have a fair share of them
 
If you routed the analog preamp signal through the DA-M10 and then off to the amplifier you'll get a nasty sound when powereing the DA-M10 off while the DA-A10 is still on...it's the same as turning off your preamp with the amplifier still on...

You could make sure the amplifier and meters turn off at the same time, and you shouldn't have this issue...I think the DA-M10 has a switched AC outlet on it for this purpose?

Thanks, that makes sense. I was considering plugging the DA-M 10 into a switched outlet on the preamp and leaving it always on, but I would possibly have the same problem if I turned the preamp off before the amp. I have never had a problem turning of the preamp before the amp in the past, but maybe I've just been lucky. I'll try it today. Many thanks!
 
What redcoates said is correct. The amp should be plugged into the switched outlet on the M10 so they both turn off together. You may also want to use some deoxit on the power button on the meters. Congrats on your purchase! :banana:

Thank you for the input. One further question Please. I curently have the speaker remote cable between the amp and preamp. The switch on the rear of the amp is in the off position and I control the speakers from the front of the preamp, which I would like to continue doing. I noted that the meter also had a knob on the front that could control the speakers. It also has the speaker remote option. I suspect nothing will change if I just leave the speaker control on the meter in the off position. Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks again.
 
MAN that is a good looking system...those meters are a nice touch.

That's not my SSL though I wish it was. That is where I found I I do not like NS-10's one bit(ducks) If you look real hard in the upper left corner there is an outline of a speaker in the wall. These were a set of Sony's that came out of Michael Jacksons studio and were very very impressive(to say the least) The SSL had a bit of lineage as it came from Metallicas studios and was used to record the Black album.
 
The speaker remote can be plugged into either the meters or pre-amp. The unused one is not connected, switching it about has no effect. I have both, but no cable, so I just use the switch for the rare times when I have two speaker pairs connected.

Once I got my Mitsubishi, I quit my constant searching for "something better."

I just got this power amp/meter combo. I have the special 3 prong remote cable plugged in, I get sound but can't get the meters to even budge? Thoughts?

I have the meters with the bigger amp the meters don't move much and they have a range switch straight reading or x10.Idisagree about plugging the amp into a switched components outlet better to get a inexpensive power strip/conditioner with a time delay and dedicated receptacle for the power amp.I have a belkin I forget the model no. but around 100.00.i have all the mitsu components and tuner.had the pre-amp and power amp serviced they sound lovely to say the least and are beautiful to look at.My 2cents.

The audio input cables to the amp must run through the meter. The meter doesn't affect the sound (although the pots on the front let you turn it down if you want). The meter is really measuring the input signal to the amp, not the output signal of the amp. It 'knows' the amplifier gain because you set the switch on the side to match the model number of the amp. This lets the meter display the correct output power for the measured input signal level (assuming 8 Ohm load).
The cable you hooked up just lets the speaker switch on the meter panel control the speaker relays in the amp.
So for hook up, you connect the pre-amp output to the input of the meter. Then the output of the meter goes to the input of the amp. Turn the volume pots on the meter all the way up.
