Audio Pro Ace Bass with Denon

It seems everyone is acquiring gear from the Scandinavian company "Audio Pro" recently, so when I saw a B2-40 Ace Bass subwoofer at the Pawn Shop for 30 bucks, I figured what the heck, I'll pick it up.

Unfortunately this model doesn't have speaker level inputs, only line level with the funky DIN 5 connector, so after wiring it up, I decided to connect it to the Processor loop on my Denon. After pressing play I got a huuuge blast of bass. So that at least confirmed that it worked. Unfortunately the processor loop is after the pre-amp and thusly the volume knob does no good in respect to the volume on the sub.

I really like this sub though and would really like to integrate it into my system.

Any ideas on how I may be able to do that, short of buying a new system.

Thanks so much guys.

Which Denon? I have my B1-45 in the 'pre out/amp in' loop of my Denon PMA 920 via y-jacks, and it's controlled by the Denon's volume knob and can be balanced with the sub's volume knob. A "processor loop" like you describe is probably for an EQ, so it keeps a constant level there so the EQ functions more efficiently no matter what the volume setting.

Its a PMA-700v, and unfortunately it doesn't have a pre out/ amp in loop.

And yes, it seems as though this processor loop would be for an EQ

Does your headphone jack silence the speaker outputs automatically? That might be a crude way to get a lower-level signal that's still volume-knob dependant.

:dunno:

I feel so ashamed I couldn't think of that. And I've been stewing over this one for quite some time too.

Thanks so much.

Unfortunately I won't really be able to use the built in crossover for my mains unless I want to be feeding them with signal through the head phone out too, which obviously I don't. But that's alright, at least the sub will work.

Thanks again.

No shame there, it's not exactly an orthodox way of doing things...for good reason, actually, it's possible that the headphone amp is a lower-quality higher-distortion amplifier that's not optimal for this purpose.

You couldn't run headphone > sub > mains without another power amp after the sub outputs, this seems to be your only option with this gear lineup.
