I recently bought a pair of JBL 4311b control monitors. The tweeters and mids don't work at all. Does anybody have any idea what might be wrong.

Thanks

Tweeters & mids in BOTH systems not working is kinda weird.
First thing I'd do is dis-mount them to see if they're connected! Also...are the level controls in the "min" (ie: OFF) position?

It is wierd. I just removed all the drivers from one of the speakers. I tested all three just wiring them directly to a reciever the woofer works but the tweeter and mid does not. There is no apparent damage. Just no sound. :scratch2:

Too bad, those JBLs are a classic speaker and a killer for rocking out too!

Test them with a meter for continuity, they may be blown. No continuity means a bad voice coil. BTW, I don't recommend testing mids and tweeters directly off a receiver, you could bow them. Get an old Xover out of some trashed speaker and use it to filter the power and frequencies.
If they are, that could be tough, The LE-25 tweeters are $20-30 on Ebay, but if you have the big, black alnico LE5-2 mids, those guys run $80-100 EACH. Other, newer versions with the ceramic magnets are about half the price. If they are blown, you can always sell the woofers for $60-100 apiece depending on their condition and the market at the time.

Good luck and let us know.!

Heed Andyman's advice, I had a pair of Pioneer CS-99A tweeters connected directly to my SX-850, just to verify that they worked. Well, I forgot about them, and a good tune came on and I cranked it a little bit and smoked those poor little guys. They didn't have a chance.
