Hi guys

Again with a Mcintosh question here...

Ive got a beautiful Mc 225 recently but my pre amp is not working properly my highly aclaimed and well known and famous C22.

As i posted here ive got problems with my potentiometer and was wondering maybe bypassing the preamp stage and and use the Mc 225 alone as an integrated without any pre amp at all.

1)
Is that posible?

2)
I just use one source so its not big deal cuz i just have one source plugged into my preamp-.

3)
the Mc 225 has 2 gain levels just in case i want to turn up/down the volume.

So what are your impression guys??

thanx a lot buddys

It would probably work OK with a CD player, as they have plenty of output. It certainly won't hurt anything. It depends on if you want any tone control, or loudness compensation...which you would lose by going direct.

I dont care about loudness expander, companders, tone controls...i love flat sound in other words TONE Defeated...

So i could go direct.....???

Yes, go direct with a variable output CDP. A fixed output will work but with a variable, you have more flexibility. For example, I drive my MC-60's directly with a Sony CDP-XA7ES. I set the MC-60 gain controls at 50% and the CDP is usually around 30% output. I found that this gives the best dynamics for both pieces. Plus, with a variable output CDP, you now have REMOTE CONTROL!!!!

Mmmmmmm not sure but as far as i know my music hall mmf cd 25 hasnt variable output

off course the remote control idea is great cuz u use the cdp one...

Let me check your xa7es and check where is the volume or output level.

thanx Socal sam.
