Remote contolled stepped attenuator

Any of you DIY gurus have an opinion on a nice relatively inexpensive ( less than $200) remote controlled stepped attenuator. I'm getting lazier and lazier in my old age and really want to add remote volume control to my custom built tube preamp. How involved might it be to install one of these attenuators?

Yes. Contact John Chapman at Bent Audio (www.bentaudio.com). He worked with me and designed a motorized remote Alps potentiometer for my Bottlehead Foreplay III linestage with remote and wall wart to power the motor. Can't sing my praises high enough for John's customer service.

That has been on my radar for a few weeks. Component selection is a bit nicer than on the version I bought a few months ago. No complaints from here with the current version. I believe you can also replace the display with a VFD instead of LCD. Looks a little nicer, IMO.

remote attenuator

Does it need to be motorized or will a self-clocked version work?

If so look at Dallas Semiconductors DS 1669, IC
just add a clean power supply, the necessary connectors, an enclosure and 2 N.O. pushbuttons.

I used this to build a wireless stereo volume control for a motivational speaker who wanders around through the audience. Works quite well. The RF units I used give a range of about 200 ft.

I think maintaining a little exercise would be good a good thing. If you get that remote your looking at, you just loose one more excuse to get off that sofa.
