Very cool and rare Wharfedale's. They can be placed on their sides end to end in a special low stand to form a sort of low console unit if desired. They cost $289.95 ea. in 1969. The stand was an extra $25.75 if you wanted it. By 1971 they were at $317.60 ea.
Yours appear to be in good shape--hang onto them.

They are in good enough shape to justify a full restoration. I love the looks of these things and they sound great. They have a very nice mid range. You hear the nuance in inflection from the performer. I am very impressed. I do not plan on parting with these. Surprisingly detailted imaging is there just about any way I place the baffle. I only had a couple of hours of low volume listening with these while my wife beat me up for trading for them.

According to my info you place them with the grill facing the wall and adjust the disc to reflect sound according to your room layout and your listening taste. Sounds to me like you can sort of create your own "sweet spot"--cool !!!
My info does not show that white box thing on the left of the disc in your pics. Any idea what that is for ??? Yours may be a slightly newer model than my info indicates; although everything looks the same except for the white box.
In regard to the WAF problem--you made the right choice!!

That box is a breaker I suppose. It has a reset button on the box. I will post better photos tonight.

I have had some time to listen to these W80A Wharfedales. They really sound great! I have no real complaints other than placement. They are heavy to move. Placement is very critical for bass response. Too close tobthe wall and its tubby. I have that worked out. Front face of the speaker is great. I thought this would sound terrible but it is astounding how well they image and fill the room. They have a BIG BIG sound stage. They realism of intrument or voice sound is great. I play music proffesionally so I am very particular about that aspect of a speakers sound. These are very organic.. dig the pics of the drivers. This is why i love this hobby. These are SWEET!!

In addition to the horizontal base which holds both units; they also had a small rolling base that could be used when the speaker was in a vertical position.
The W80 was nearly the most expensive speaker in the Wharfedale line in the late 60's and early 70's. Second only to the W90 model which was dropped around 1970.

Hello! I scored big with a pair of these from an online estate auction. They had not been used or cared for a lot of years. Owner had a long battle with cancer and died in 2018.
The have the dust to prove it. But, they sound amazing! I paid $185.00 for the pair!
One of the woofer cones is indented; any safe way to push it out or just leave it or replace woofer?
Any thoughts on cleaning off the dust??
Many thanks, in advance!
