Wanted your opinion...I'm obsessing over R290. It's been awhile, been enjoying the music. This piece has become my daily listener. Want it to last. Not anxious to tear it apart again for 1 resistor swap but it bugs me cuz it was out of spec last year when I called it good. R290 is a 4.7 ohm quarter watt green fusible testing 5.2 ohm when I left it. Was hoping someone would post the TSB on this over time, no luck thus far. I wanna swap it before it drifts higher and blows things up. Probably choose a Vishay...would a half watt upgrade be foolish? Here's a non scheduled program update to the RX **** show:
After 9 hours of nice listening time I decided to chase some light/moderate popping in the speakers. Happens upon power on & off. I think I've ran into the TSB service issue on this thing. I still can't find that TSB after checking under every bowl of rice, but I'm getting close.
R290 and C170 seem to be right at the heart of it:
R290 on the schematic AND parts list are a 22ohm , 1/4 watt green fusible resistor...but, the factory installed a 4.7 ohm resistor there. I had a 22ohm flameproof on hand so I replaced it. All was well on the DBT and enjoyed a song or two. The moment I plugged the RX into mains power R 290 farted magic smoke. I put the 4.7 ohm original back and now it works fine...playing music now.
My intent was to just replace the C170 (Nichicon CE Great Supply) with a KG Gold Tunes of the exact same value, which I did. Problem is, I knicked R290 with my glue removal tool. I pulled it and tested it a little out of spec. Tested 5.2 ohm vice 4.7 ohm with a gold band tolerance so I swapped the bitch with regret. Again, I put the old one back in and it's making nice music as we speak...monitoring.
I'll post a you tube video from Audio Tom. Looks like he bought this piece from a thrift store on the cheap, and was puzzled by these same 2 parts. I believe his RX had the TSB work done. R290 was a thermistor on his, and C170 was a BI-POLAR muse at a third the value of the original 4700uF polar cap. It's a head scratcher to me dudes. Though I'm enjoying the music now, I'm afraid to evenlook at it funny. It's old and quirky I guess, and so am I.

Would replacing a 250ma fuse with a 500ma fuse be prudent?4.7 ohm quarter watt green fusible
As long as it has a flameproof coating.Probably choose a Vishay.
Or your multimeter probe tips need to be cleaned up a bit. .5 Ω could be your test lead resistance.R290 is a 4.7 ohm quarter watt green fusible testing 5.2 ohm when I left it.
Generally a bad idea but in this case it’s 23mA Vs 33mA (P=I^2 x R) for max current case before the fuse goes. I still wouldn’t do it.Would replacing a 250ma fuse with a 500ma fuse be prudent?
Yeah, I know it seemed like a silly question. My concern is power up surge.Generally a bad idea but in this case it’s 23mA Vs 33mA (P=I^2 x R) for max current case before the fuse goes. I still wouldn’t do it.
470 mohmCurrently have these MOX on hand.

WTF It's just a frickin decimal point470 mohm

There is KSD2012, hFE may be very slightly higher depending how much current you put through it, shouldn’t re be a problem:Any suggestions for a 2SD1913 replacement?

PM JonesI have some Yageo FRM-25JT-52-4R7 4.7 ohm 5% metal film fusible on hand. They all measure about 4.8 ohms (corrected for lead resistance).
Let me know if I should send you one.
James
Good stuff Sparky thank you sir. There is KSD2012, hFE may be very slightly higher depending how much current you put through it, shouldn’t re be a problem:
and then there is KSC2334, slightly higher power but otherwise on the money:
I‘d probably go with the KSD2012.![]()

His last two albums, Ordinary Man and Patient #9 he definitely knew his days on this earth were becoming less and less.I don't know where else to say this....Ozzy Osbourne passed away this week... So many albums & songs... I guess if I passed away today I'd listen to this one....
Cheers John...
Thanks Sensei Nashou66. No more tears was the last album of his I listened to. Will check those newer ones ya recommended for sure. No rest for the wicked was my favorite album. Keeping the Oz man flowing with this one....His last two albums, Ordinary Man and Patient #9 he definitely knew his days on this earth were becoming less and less.
If you do not have them you should get them. There are really great songs on both. Actually there are maybe two songs alltogether from both that I dont care for.
But If I knew the end was near id listen to Road to Nowhere .
