"Remastering" your commercial CDs?

I've never tried this but I'm willing to bet somebody here has.

Some of the more complex PC sound editing utilities include functions that were previously only available in gear from Phase Linear/Carver/dbx, has anyone "remastered" (maybe not the correct term...) a CD with any of the following?

Noise reduction (hiss and impulse)
Dynamic range expansion
Stereo image adjustment (middle-side levels)
Bass synthesis (i.e. extrapolating bass harmonics)
Crosstalk cancelation (aka Carver Sonic Holography)

I'm tempted to work over a few recordings with bass synthesis for when my sub arrives. A Carver-ized copy of DSOTM to give to a fellow Floyd fan would be neat too.
